YES. Your damaging your equipment, throwing your money away on consumables, and working far too hard finishing your parts if you don't. Clean dry air is SO
important for a variety of reasons. An air dryer will pay for itself in no time on consumable cost savings alone. In addition it will prevent permanent internal
water damage to your plasma cutter and plasma torch. Protect your investment and finish it off right.
How do I know if I have water and or humidity on my air supply?
You will have water and humidity in your air supply, it's normal for your air compressor to produce water.
Visual signs will be black burns streaming in a spiral motion around your electrode shaft and on the inside of your plasma tip. That's
moisture making it's way through your plasma cutter and torch lead, and eating your consumables. Do you ever see a blue-green or colorful arc? Thats moisture burning up the copper in your tips and electrodes.
What do most people order to get started?
Most customers who order a PCP Air Dryer also order a case of 12 filters at the same time. The air dryer
itself is shipped ready to use, with a fresh filter already installed and 1 replacement in the box. It's
great to have the extra 12 filters in stock and be set up for a long time.
Why does the shipping cost seem high on an air dryer and 12 replacement filters?
The PCP Air Dryer is large, measuring 5 inches in diameter and 14 inches in length. The filters are 4.5 inches
in diameter and 8 inches in length. The combined size and weight of the dryer, 14 filters, and packaging
adds up to higher shipping costs than expected. It's not a small unit like you might see at a hardware or big box store.
What improvement will I see after installation?
You will see your plasma consumable life increase dramatically. So much so, that most people are blown away with
the results. As moisture quickly deteriorates the copper tips, the orifice in the tip will wear out of round.
This causes an improperly constrained arc resulting in angled kerf, excessive dross, reduced cut speeds,
and bad THC readings.
Why is a the pre-filter needed if the paper filter element is there to collect the moisture?
The pre-filter will reduce the heavy humidity in the air, and collect the water in your air supply.
This results in a much dryer air supply to the main filter and will dramatically prolong the life
of the filter elements saving you money.
How often should I drain the pre filter on my PCP air dryer?
Initially you should drain the pre-filter 3-4 times daily to familiarize yourself with how much water your air supply
system produces. After the first day of use you will be able to determine how often draining is required in your system.
Is there any cost to maintaining the pre-filter?
No, the pre-filter system contains a permanent, maintenance free element and only requires periodic draining.
How often should I replace my paper element?
Element replacement varies depending on temperature, humidity, air compressor size, etc. We recommend inspecting the
element for the first time within 7 days or 40 hours of operation to see how much moisture it is collecting in
your application. Typically elements will last up to 2 weeks in most applications where the plasma table is being used for
3 or more hours everyday.
What is the recommended inlet pressure I should use?
Inlet air pressure should be regulated down to approx. 100psi and not exceed 120psi. Be sure your regulator flows enough cfm to supply your
plasma or you can end up with pressure loss and inconsistent cut quality.
Does this dryer require an electrical connection?
No, this dryer does not require an electrical connection. Refrigerated type dryers do and are the equivalent to running
an air conditioner or dehumidifier making then costly to operate in addition to the high initial cost.
Do PCP dryers come with the air line fittings?
Due to the numerous different style fittings in use the dryers do not come with fittings. The inlet and outlet ports
are bare female 1/4" NPT ports.
What is the PCP Air Dryer constructed of?
PCP dryers are manufactured entirely from aluminum and all billet components are tig welded in place.
A blue powder coat finish is applied for protection and long lasting good looks. The main body
measures 5" in diameter, and the overall length is 14".
