Just a simple job in an old saw I had in the shed.

Re: Old Saw
Nice,
I have a dozen or so saws laying around that i've been meaning to cut. Is the set up difficult?

Re: Old Saw
Hi, no set up is easy as long as you don't do it the way I did.
When you make up the sign, make sure you include the saw shape. But just don't cut the saw, just the interior. That way you can easy line up the saw on a couple of points and know it's straight.
My obscure way of doing it was check recheck recheck after recheck to make sure I had it in the right spot
Oh and take the handle off first.

Re: Old Saw
Thanks,
I'm the same way. I have a 4×4 table and I do lots of pieces that are bigger than that and I always do multiple dry runs when indexing a full sheet before I even turn that torch on. Beats making a costly mistake.

Re: Old Saw
I agree, Larry, draw the saw (which you can always use later) then fit the text into it. I pick a couple of points on the saw and also the drawing to index to. As Darryl says check and double check before cutting. There seems to be an awful lot of saws out there without handles. If you are good with woodworking, a nice looking handle adds value to the final piece but it has to be a good copy or it just looks fake!........RK

Re: Old Saw
Nice work Larry, I have also cut several saws and I always remove the handle. Practice holding your breath for 2 minutes or so at a time so you can condition your body to what you will do while these antique saws are cutting. LOL
