Full 3D Eagle

Postby mike m » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:29 pm

A few months ago, I was asked if I would build a full 3d eagle for the top of the vietnam memorial flag pole in the tri-cites Washington. I have never built anything like that, before so I wasn't sure if I could, but I never turn down a challenge. This is what I came up with, still needs to be powder coated so I will post more pictures after its complete. The head and tail will come off and be done in white. The body will be black. I also have glass eyes to be installed after powder coating is done. P.S. the body I started with was a practice Navy bomb shell of the boardman bombing range <see picture> I then had a nice solid starting point to attach the legs, wings and all the feathers. I just finished powder coating < see pictures>. The eagle will be presented to the Vietnam committee on July 3rd and then will be mounted on top the flag pole a few days later. I will post pictures after its on the flag pole.

Mike, congratulations in making such a fantastic piece, look forward to seeing it with coating but almost a shame to cover the workmanship.

Would you mind telling us what you charge to make a piece like that? How many hours will you have in it? Material cost and powder coating cost?

Thanks, very nice work by the way.

The only DXF on this bird is the feathers, and they belong to Signtorch, so I can't post them. I do have a DXF for the wing base that attached the feathers too. If you would like that let me know, and I can post it.

This one took me about 80 hours, and that includes three coats powder coating. If I had to do another one, I think I could do it in about 60 hours.

Between 4,000 and 4,500 based on 55 hours, and that includes all material.
