Surf's Up!

Post by Oldsarge »

This is a piece I collaborated on with a friend.... The piece was done as a birthday present for a customers husband. CopperFX on the edge/center, and just swirl marks for the rest, used an orbital sander to texture the board part. It's 36" tall, and the moon and island are raised about 3/4" with coupling nuts. I wanted to do a sun, but the customer specified moon, so here we are! BTW, the moon was from a file posted here as a sun/moon file... Thanks to the original poster, much appreciated. Customer was speechless!

How many pieces make up the board? Looks layered. Thanks. Great job. CG
There is plenty of room at the top - and the top is where you want to be. Whenever you do a project - do the hardest part first and the rest will be easy.

Thanks! The board is one piece, with a strip down the center taped on with 3m UHB. The center was taped off, and the edge was sprayed with SteelFX copper. Clear powder on all the individual pieces...

Mike I can't tell from the picture but it appears the moon is hammer textured - am I seeing things that aren't there (wouldn't be the first time would it). Really nice as usual for you my friend.

Yep, swirled, then copper fx and clear powder coated!

As with all your stuff, very nicely done Ol'Sarge. The textures and SteelFx give it a nostalgic feel; I like it. Did it come with the back light also?

Thanks Steve! This was for a customer's husband, and they were so impressed with the piece they actually did the setting and backlighting and sent us a picture! I've been trying to take better and better pictures of the pieces we do, and I can tell you that interest has really picked up when we started doing that.... Get rid of the cell phones and take some good quality pictures with your products staged.... side of a barn, on a fence etc.... It does make a difference!
