How small can you go?

Post by michmetalman »

I am pretty amazed at how small I can get stuff with so much detail from my plasma cutter.

Actually for me..once I turn a file into a dxf, I just shrink it. I'll have to adjust some lines and cutouts a lot of times, but not too bad really.

Hey michmetalman, nice work with the detail. What type of cutter do you have ? Currently I'm running a 1250 Hypertherm, thought most of my jobs would be heavier. Now I'm thinking I will buy a 2nd unit, but smaller for my table so I can get the finer detail.

I cut with a Powermax 1250 as well. You can run finecut and get pretty small. I routinely cut small items with quite a bit of detail, out of 14g as well as 10g. I can cut the tree of life file that has been shared on here, at 12" total, and not lose anything. I haven't tried smaller, mainly because I have been pressed for time.

I found this thread and decided to resurrect it instead of making a new one. I had the same question being new to this technology. What small detailed items have you made? and how does material, a good modern cutter like a HT 65/85, and the mechanics of a table affect the size and detail of the end result?

lol I can tell you I suck at this.
We should all pick 1 file and everyone can post up their results.

Very nice pieces. . . :D

And on a side note, since being involved with this forum & you guys across the pond I am finding myself doing projects more & more in metric . . my fractional math has always sucked . . . :)

But the USSR doesn't exist anymore, it was them, not Russia that landed on the moon, and China didn't put a man on it, just a rover.

I have never been able to use my 45 amp fine cut tip. I'm new as well I have the Powermax 85. What settings do you guys use to cut with and what thickness metal can you cut as well. Do you set the plasma to 45 amps or do you lower the amps. What do you do here.

Russia, the USSR, and China have never BEEN to the moon. They have flung stuff at it, crashed stuff into it, and managed to orbit it and return the orbiter, but never actually WENT to the moon. Close only counts when you are using extremely large munitions.......

At least Russia and China both drive on the correct side of the road.

Ive tried to cut detailed with my power max 45...Ive even went to 30 amps tips and ran the cutter at 20 amps..I saw very little improvement on the detail cuts. I set my delay at .00 and still would get little divets at the begining of the cut. I have my torch height measured at .06 to cut and .15 to pierce..both checked with a feeler gauge...What would I need to look at to tighten up my Kerf width a little? I see some really detailed stuff on here that guys do with interior cuts. Some of you guys are getting hair thin lines...How is this possiable?
