Another Tree of Life

Post by Cracker Red »

3' round, airbrushed with Bill's dyes. Pic is in failing light, this thing POPS in the sun.

Question is...what do I ask for it? ($$?)

Thanks guys! Was curious about the pricing as I had several passerbys want to pay $100-125 for it. Thought that was way low. I was asking $300 and my wife says THAT is way low  I may just keep it I like it so much!

Very nice work.
I think you should get way more than $300.00 for that piece. I am guessing but I would say you would be closer to $500.00for that one.

Awesome work.

thanks for posting.

Gary

Talked to a friend who does the interior of show homes and she said you would be looking at a start of $600.00 for that one here.

18 guage steel. Airbrushed it and then shot it with clear. The clear came out near flawless...has a few very minor spots that no one would ever see (speck of dust here, a touch of orange peel there...maybe 3 total defects). I will probably get them out this week.

I'd love to get a roller and make a hoop to mount it in (out of square tube).

Thanks guys!

This is one I did for a charity event. It is 36" plus the 1" hammered edge tubing and I put an asking price of $400; which it sold for $600. Same piece in both pics. Color is via torch aside from black paint for the silhouette of the child.

I like that a lot Travis, thanks for sharing!

Did you use a tubing roller to do that?

Thank you and no problemo. Yes, the ring was done via tubing roller.

I guess it all depends on your market, or where you get exposure.... This is a version that I do... I sold this one for $375 but that was for a really good steady customer. I've had another one like it on display at the gallery for 3 weeks at $325 and a little interest, but no sale... sometimes they go fast, sometimes they sit.... But don't "give" your work away... once you do and word gets out people will be grinding on you for lower prices like it's a yard sale!

One thing I do notice on this design, if you look on Etsy and Ebay, it's everywhere! You can get them as low as $50 and up depending on the finish, but the online market is pretty saturated with them. Adding a frame or a backer will take it up a notch and give you an advantage on or off line!

I thought the same thing when I first used them... Until I sprayed them with clear coat! Then the color really "popped!" Especially in the sun light!

And if you airbrush you have to lay it on fairly heavy, if you powdercoat or clearcut it really makes the colors pop!

Sold for $495 :)

Not sure what size you made there Sarge, but I don't see how you can make money @ 375 with that. Looks like it took HOURS to make!

Looks great, surely worth it . . . :D

Have to ask, what part of the country are you in?

I don't think you would never get that here in Louisiana. :o

Or did you sell on the internet?

Just trying to learn, it is all coming together slowly . . .

I'm in Florida. I do this as a side thing, but refuse to give my work away. I'm blessed that I don't have to sell much of anything, just a few $$$ here and there to help pay for the machine.

I'd rather make 3 items that sell for 500 each per month, than 50 that sell for 10. Maybe I'm lazy ?

That is awesome as well!

My steel supplier has the hammered edge tube but in 1 and 3/16". I have a 1.25" square die set..... I'm hoping that this would work as the HE tube looks so good!
