Quad Bumper
Here is the bumper I made this weekend for a neighbor. I know its not all plasma cut parts but some of the angles were a little tricky. It would help if I could draw 3D and then layout on a flat pattern. Starting to learn Solid Works now but still at a kindergarten level with SW. Anyway here are some pictures of the bumper.

I have SW 2012 but am clueless where to even start learning. It seems more intimadating than AutoCad did when I was learning it.Lithics wrote:Looks really good. What version of SolidWorks you learning?

Re: Quad Bumper
I had about 15hrs in the whole thing but I think I could shave that down to about 10 if I had to do it again.

Re: Quad Bumper
Have you tried out the tutorials in SW? Its how I started. I'm completely self taught and now I'm one of our company's design techs. takes a bit of patience but well worth the time. Oh and nice job on the bumper!

Re: Quad Bumper
I first starting with tutorials but then was sent to classes tht went further in depth. Heres a site I found awhile ago havent used it yet but might help you out http://www.learnsolidworks.com. My first project was to take a 30 yr old 2D machine design n put it into SolidWorks, talk about hair pulling for the first month or 2. It took 6 month n roughly 10-12 hr days to finish it, a complete redesign. The K factor issue is still my biggest problem, everything has to match our CNC By-Press

Nice project, if you are having problems with Solidworks. I can invite you to my Dropbox account. I Self taught myself, now I teach high school students and other vocational teachers how to run the program if interested. Email me at agmechman73@yahoo.com, the I can invite you on my Dropbox account....
SW is awesome and you can save to dxf or you can open existing dxf files so you can modify parts or you can import a pic right into the graphic area and auto trace leave as 2D or extrude to show what stays and falls
