Vector Magic - PlasmaCam not able to fillet points

Post by Copp3r »

Hi there,

I've dropped some cash and purchased the full version of Vector Magic. While it's proven to be awesome and potentially may save a lot of time in converting Jpegs and BMP's, I've come upon a problem.

I found some real nice looking Bald Eagle head profiles and while Vector Magic worked great, once I imported them in to Design Edge (PlasmaCam), I can't use the Fillet tool to round out any of the points. I get the typical "gong" sound and an exclamation mark.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks

Copp3r / roger

Roger, the fillet works fine for me? Do you remove all extra colors? If you don't it will create a double line for each color and will give you problems.
Maybe you could post the file that you output from vectormagic so I can take a look at it, also maybe post the picture and I can run it through vector magic and see If it does it for me.

Brian and Copp3r,

Does vector magic work well on self portraits? Is it worth the money for someone that deals with alot of different logos and pictures that people want cut? Thinking about getting it myself, but want to make sure it is worth the $$$.

It will work very well with a picture that has limited colors(such as most logos.) It will not work with a photo directly.
you would have to use a paint program and posterize the colors(set as few of colors as you can) and even then the results can vary. Between inksape, vector magic, and gimp(my free paint program) there isn't much I can't do, given enough time
and patience. I think vector magic is a great tool for the price......just remember you need more than one tool to do an engine overhaul......there is no magic wrench that does it all

Hey Brian....

I think I may have an idea where the problem is... however I still haven't sorted out how to fix it.

I'm AM getting two lines, one on top of the other even in B&W. As an example; I'll try and take out a line segment... "K" key to identify two spots and then Delete and the line is removed but is still there... if you know what I mean. At least I hope so.

Here's an image of what I'm seeing just BEFORE I save the file to DXF. Can you (or anyone else help me out. I sure hope so...

Thanks in advance,

Roger / Copp3r

Brian... YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER !!!!!

I just found a previous post of yours on this very topic...
...adjusted the settings and BAM !!!

Things are perfect !!!!!

"Think I have answer after 2 days of fighting double lines. On the last page in export options there are 3 settings -
Shape mode: stack shapes on top of each other (using this has eliminated double lines for me)
Stroking mode: do not stroke shape boundaries
DXF mode: lines and spline curves"

Thanks Brian !!!!

wow thanks roger, you even taught me somthing in the process, I did not even know it had that feature....

here is how I always did it
remove background.JPG
I click on remove background
removed background.JPG
remove all of the white background.
this works great.....but....................

I always had troubles with vectors that had more than two colors and would still get two lines. Your way will solve that :)
Thanks......I love plasmaspider
