This really bites. I was just told about this site 3 weeks ago as I am just starting out in this business and had built my own machine. I realize I am not a contributing member YET but planned to be as everyone on this site was so helpful and willing to share ideas. Now this site is ruined by one bad decision. I liked all of your work and my wife even has scrolled through the designs you share and had ear marked some she wanted for our house. I guess those days are over and I just wanted to thank all of you for sharing the true spirit of the trade. If anyone hears of a different site they are switching to drop me a line at my user name at yahoo. Thank you folks for all your help and hope your work doesn't start appearing in bulk at the big box stores.

www.....Will always be just that. Anyone with a computer can log in here and view and take anything they want. It didn't start with that ad, and won't end when the ad is removed. There is not a picture posted, on here or anywhere that can't be dxf'ed. Their ad money is paying for us to throw a fit. But, if they are just throwing money away to advertise, let them. After the ad expires and they realize no money can be made from this site it will probably end.

Posting of dxf files makes it easier for anyone looking for an automatic file to input. Your custom items need to remain on your computer, generic stuff, post it if you want too.

My bigger art projects are original, even the small generic ones I try to be as original as possible. I have used files from this site and will continue. Even the title above says "online community", and hopefully that will never change. There are many royalty free photo sites out there, and I frequent them often. Royalty free clip-art sites are the best way to make life simpler in the conversion to dxf.

I noticed in many profiles that the locations are blank? We do have many foreign members that decided to list their location, but of the 102 pages of members how many are foreign that decided not too? Make that mandatory at sign in, that may ease some apprehension about posting dxf files for someone unknown.

buzzedart - got an idea, let me steel it. ( That kind of loses its meaning here if you don't notice the spelling ) I think everyone here would be surprised to learn how many foreign computers have viewed this site over the years. If anyone has access to the servers, or the webmaster might be able to elaborate on the volume of traffic. Emailing of files is an idea, but anyone form anywhere can get a generic email address...hotmail,yahoo,aol,gmail. Let's work on our art.

Just a thought, but if you have a project that you want to share couldn’t you just post a small pic of it and if someone wanted the DFX it could be sent as a PM to that person. That would stop companies from getting the DFX that you worked so hard on.

It looks like that's the way things are going to go, Larry.
It's a shame, but we have to find a way to help each other without hurting all of us in the process.

I suppose after all the "airing out" including me it boils down to this. This is a great site. Admin should be compensated for a great site. Ads are a way to do that. If we do not support the advertiser he will go away and another will come, hopefully not someone who would undersell us.

These people have already taken over most of our industries in the name of corporate greed at its finest. Now that they manufacture most everything purchased here in the big name stores, they are starting to suffer with labor strikes for higher pay. Soon everything being imported will be costing more and more. I have been an electrician for 31 years now,
and did a job for the VA hospital in Livermore ,California. The specifications said that no materials are to be "MADE IN CHINA". Try to find conduit fittings that are made here! I was using steel fittings with microscopic "CHINA" stamped in them. The VA boss was very pleased with my work and let it slide. I have quoted custom work and the customer was astonished at my price. I feel they have the "Pier One Import" and "Cost Plus" mentality . I have often said, if I could walk into a store and snap my fingers and make everything "MADE IN CHINA" disappear, the store would be totally empty, including the fixtures.
Our schools do not teach the trades anymore, and everybody wants to make 6 figures a year sitting behind a computer.
I have done electrical work at Cisco Systems in San Jose for 10 years now for my employer and see thousands in their cubicles sitting behind the monitor . Some have 2 and 3 monitors, and its crazy! Frustrated and worried about my kids future
here.I still talk to my shop teacher from 33 years ago who I aided in night classes, and he said they are trying to revive shop
classes in school. The problem is they cannot find people to teach them. Some of us would probably be excellent teachers and they are not requiring college degrees in most cases. Hope we can pull this great country out of the current nosedive.

I haven't responded yet because I haven't had the time for this BS!

I do this for you members on my "spare" time and I still don't have time to properly respond to this disappointing thread this evening.

I understand the legitimate beef many of you have but the racial comments are childish, arrogant, and not welcome on this website. I imagine that anyone who has uttered one in this thread will not have the capacity or willingness to think the situation through and will not understand but rather be furious with me.

I'll be back when I get my kids to bed.

I was going to post a long winded response to many of your ridiculous posts in regards to the new ad in the top right corner but I won't bother disecting this feeding frenzy of emotions and hypothetical situations.

Nothing has changed here at PlasmaSpider except my opinion of some of you since I picked up this new advertiser. Advertising is really the only way to generate money to support this site and thanks to this thread I am sure that ad won't be here next month. Apparently that would please many of you...Your welcome. I still don't see how that helps you.

As for the crazy notions of my name being Chong Lee and this site being a pipeline for dxf files to China...get a grip. WWW is for WORLD WIDE WEB, nothings changed since the ad was displayed elkriverfab.

Ironman...you have no idea how much grief the posting of copywrite protected images has cost me over the years that i've run this site. C'mon man, did you read your post after you typed it?

Anvilhead...who owes who an appology here?

Anyone who feels they are supporting China by kicking a Canadian a few bucks is welcome to have thier donation back. PM me and i'll get it to you.

If you don't like it here now since the ad was put up...beat it...and don't come back next month when it's gone because of this thread.

EVERYONE else is welcome and everyone can delete thier post in this thread if they wish...I'm not doing it.

USA,USA,USA,USA,USA AND USA,USA,USA is there any other country in the world? does the USA take advantage of canada? I get a kick out of some people PLEASE don't read this and get mad It's just an eye opener

"The utility, which is owned by the province of British Columbia, maintains that California owes it $290 million in unpaid electric bills. It offered to reduce that amount by $125 million in order to get the rest of the money"

Is there not "Corporate greed at it's finest" in the us? jfk was asasinated over pulling out of vietnam by the us goverment and all the documents sealed for 75 years so nobody could know the truth. 911 look at all the unanswered Q?

ANY pic can be copied traced and taken. This is to help people out in the same business and is awesome for knolage and help that made the internet great

Like I said PLEASE don't read and get mad but I grow weary of hearing

"made from usa steel by a usa fabricater with a usa welder and a usa chipping hammer and painted with usa paint"

Is not "Corporate greed" in your country and mine and the rest of the world the reason we have to work so much to try get by and the reason we bought a table to make xtra money and this site helps us.

If anything the advertizer ain't getting any of our business but helping pay for a site we all enjoy :)

DON'T get mad but open your eyes! Cheers to everyone and I'm sure I'll laugh at more comments

I'd like to see a show of hands how many of these proud American buisness owners puffin out their chests have stepped up and bought advertising on this site to help keep it running? Or did you assume the 25 dollars you donated made you a stock holder in the website?

Admin as I wrote in a personal email to you - the China thing rubbed me the wrong way and the thread caused a published venting. I know you need money from advertisers to operate - I would be willing to pay a yearly membership dues to assist with the $$$$ needed to keep plasmaspider going. We as a company fight China prices with the items we produce for the residential market. No you don't owe me an apology - I owe you one and I do apologize - this is a great site and we the members need to support you with our money to make your efforts worthwhile. CG

My previous post to this thread voiced no objection to this outfit advertising on the forum. I only wanted to point out to those who post some truly wonderful drawings here that they were going to the entire world free of charge – probably to reappear on the market in your home town.

That said, I have two “faults” with DRAGON EYE. First it came as a shock to me personally see that our long time, faithful and most generous member, Cascade Metal Design, who has made available so many terrific drawings at no charge, now has direct competition on a forum they helped to build. So be it – That was my concern, BUT the Dragon has every right to advertise here too. However, too bad they didn't post a drawing or two as a show of “good faith”. My guess is the Dragon has a file full of terrific Asian designs that might be great for them to share. Made me feel all they might do is absorb the work posted by others....?

Second, when you went to DRAGON EYE'S web site two drawing immediately jumped out. First was the kokopelli, a distinctly American design, so it seemed incongruous to be coming from China of all places. So be it – get over it Bob – Kokopellis pretty much out there for anyone to use...

However, the drawing which really got to me (and now it isn't on their web site) was the several horseback rider, cowboys coming direct out at the viewer. Fact is this is a drawing by R.A. Guthrie of Montana, who is certainly the grand father of modern cowboy silhouette art. RA's drawing, GHOST RIDERS, has been “lifted” by so many people that it defies imagination. Still, what this made me think right off the bat was are these folks perfectly willing to gather in any art they see, with little concern for copyright or the original artist. It seems it so many instances THIS is how some folks on the other side of the pound do business. Well, realisticly we aren't much better on this side either!

So stick in there Mr. Dragon. Get on board and share a little with the rest of us and in a short time most will welcome you into the fold! Oh, and just make sure things you post are things you actually drew – just like the rest of us are supposed to do!
