I'm confused, won't any dxf file work with Torchmate?

You can use any DXF file for your torchmate. I have been for years.

When I import them from other being created on other programs they aren't always correct. So a square, imports as 4 pieces not just 1. And when I try to "make path" or "connect path" it doesn't always work.

That may be because the files you import havn't been "joined" already, even though they appear to be. To give you an example I'll make a square that's not joined and one that is, download them and see if that is what the problem is. The one on the left is not joined together, the one on the right is.

Thats what I'm having problems with as well. Nothing is joined, and I'm unsure how to do it!

Found my usb dongle, you are exactly correct. The left one is 4 pieces and the right is 1.

Some of my files I have someone do for me in solidworks, so do I have him "join paths?"

Anyone have any 3d puzzles that the files are joined?

Here is just one of many puzzles I found here on this site, it's a 3D giraffe. I had to join the lines together, so try it and see if it opens ok for you. I'm not sure if the scale is correct, you may have to play around with that.

Thank you, I will play around with it.

So if I'm cutting with .125 material do you guys just let the slots be .125 or slightly larger ?

Got a pic of this together by chance?

I had downloaded the giraffe dxf above before.

I had to make a lot of modifications after piecing it together in CAD so it would work.
The existing drawing pieces do not work so don't cut from it. With new file I cut one from 14 GA c.s. and it is good if welding it together (which I did). If you want to keep it a puzzle I would suggest making the slots a tad bit narrower.
my 2 cents. See attached drawing . . . . .

I bought all the Plasma 3D puzzles from Make CNC. I paid for them in the first 3 that I cut. That gives me all of the assembly instructions also. The files come sized in small , medium and large in several thicknesses. Also has both metric and inch. Well worth the investment. I sell a lot of the horses, dragonflies and butterflies. My Torchmate cad works great with them.
