SCroll design

Post by bafortin »

I have a lady that found this scroll design and would like me to cut it out for her. I tried to convert it so I can cut it, but I can not get it to clear uo enough to cut. Can anyone convert this picture that I have attached to a DXF file for me? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Newbie question;

Just curious, when you did this in Inkscape, about how long did it take?

How do you or for that matter, any of you decide when to use Inkscape vs. CorelDraw?

I have CorelDraw 7, just installed . . . have zero knowledge as to how to use it. :(

I installed Inkscape this morning, is it basically the same as CorelDraw?

HI Steve
We were all Newbies too and this is a great place to ask questions as the people here are helpful. I use Inkscape as I?m retired and its free for the using. I?m sure CorelDraw 7 is a great program and may have more options they do similar things.
Now for the time for what was done it was simple so therefore easy and short time was needed. I did a screen shot of the scroll pattern then loaded that into Inkscape and did trace bitmap under the path menu. This brings up a menu where options to effect the result on the trace. I change the number of scans and clicked the color box and click OK. You can close that menu and go back to the image of the scroll and chick on the image and move it. You will see there is another image under it. The moved image is your tracing and now delete the under image (original) as you don?t need it anymore. You now have a path of the scroll that you can use by saving as a DXF or SVG to import into SheetCam. Now sometime it is not that simple as tracing may give you lines both inside and outside of your original image and you will need to work with it more to produce a useable path. Sometimes you can use SheetCam to change layers and then delete them to make the file useable. I am not an expert on either program just what I have learned by doing.
There are many youtube tutorials for Inkscape that are very helpful.

Have fun
