Pit Bull hanger

Post by DXF »

First balance it on an 8 penny nail. Draw a straight vertical line to mark the center of balance. Curvy lines work too. Some times you have to remove part of the sawtooth hanger. Bend the spacers the same height as the sawtooth hanger and spot weld on. Make the spacers parallel with the sawtooth and centered where you spot weld them on and you can't see them when it's hanging.

Dave, are you using a tong type spot welder or just making small TIG welds?

Dave
With the pointed tongs?

Does it leave a mark on the front?

Which spot welder did you go with?

Thanks, Steve

I used the hand operated one. It does some times leave a small mark because the top tong was bent when it fell off my table and my trigger finger isn't real accurate. I tried to straighten the tong. Needs more work and adjusted. When I get the big one going it will spot weld perfect. They're both Millers and 220 volt. The round pieces spot welded on are spacers.

edit: i've been ending a piece of tig filler wire of 1/8 or 3/32 into a U shape and tig welding it on as a hook. i like this option better

OK Dave, you are costing me money . . . :D

Now I'm shopping for a spot welder . . .another Miller coming my way . . .

I have been trying to figure a hanging method that I could do easily . . .

Based on your system it appears a spot welder would be lot quicker than a MIG or TIG . . .

Also your stand off method really adds to the overall appearance . .

I use the same methods as DXF but instead of spot welding I plug weld them from the from or back and grind the front side smooth. Takes but minutes.
