Ivy Fairy

Post by ben de lappe »

I actually found my file for this . I thought I might share this with all the members who have helped support my project searches in the past. Once you look at the dxf it is basically self explanatory. If need be I could post more pics. These ivy leaves were scanned into my torchmate software and a tool path run from there. The Leaves are simply attached to 1/4" rod that is rolled to fit. The wings attach by a triangular piece that welds to the back of the fairy. The wings then weld to the triangular piece. I think I might torch color the next one.

Thanks for the file. I haven't tried a 3D project yet. Looks like a good candidate.

this was the first time that I designed and manufactured a 3-d piece using c-n-c. It has been a fun project and I hope you guys have as much fun building them as we do :D

Thank you for the post.
I cut this out of 18ga. I received a lot turned up noses when I said I was making an ivy fairy. It was fun to make.
I bent all of the leaves with a mallet in an open vise. I welded in the face detail, to give it a " less human" look. I am not completely happy with the paint job.

Great Job! Dont worry about the upturned noses, you make what you want, that's the point of this business. Glad to see you made it your own and did details differently as you saw fit. As you pointed out the finishing in colors can be tricky, especially for a metal man such as myself. I went with Japanese brown patina with green hilights on the leaves. Thankfully my wife helped tremendously with that part. I recently made a few more and gave one to my aunt for Christmas, who absolutley loved it. Thank you for liking it enough to make and post. Great work!

Ben,
We finally got around to making one...actually two. Time consuming but turned out really nice. Wife loves it.
Thanks a million for the file.
