Does anyone use the Plasma Calculator/Excel spreadsheet?

Post by radnurse68 »

New guy needs help with the plasma calculator. I will break it down.....
General dimensions: what units-inches, feet etc.?
Area and Perimeter sections are subdued (yellow) and diff to see.
Steel cost/lb : is this my total cost for the steel calculated by the pound or the per/pound cost? (ie. 4.50/lb)
Approx time: is this calc for me based on other info or do I plug a number in?
Cad time: hourly wage? and what is a fair price if so
Cost/min: Where does this figure come from? 2.50 is the default
Thickness, Cutting Speed and Catagory Chart are self explanatory....

Thanks,

Stephen W. Sparks

I have no idea what you are even talking about. I can surmise you must have some sort of spreadsheet or table that helps with costing and pricing on jobs. If you want to know how I price PM me I will send you my phone number and I will gladly tell you. I am in west tx so it's not like we are in the same trade area but I would think it should be about the same unless there is someone with a waterjet or laser that is starving to death and they moved in next door to you.

I have used the spreadsheet and for custom projects it has weeded out the cheapskates that don't want to pay for quality. they don't understand that you are paying your machine as well as your self. in their search to find the hack that will cut our throat for some business sign or some crazy almost impossible image with little to no resolution to be converted. most of the time what we do is absolute custom and or made to fit if we can. I don't mind giving away some medium piece to help someone out or as a gift, but it absolutely ticks me off when people u don't know or someone who has the means to pay ,try to cheap out on the price. it is an absolute insult. I know there are many generous people here who know exactly what I mean, but yet they still give when they feel it is appropriate, but they will also say that profit is not a bad word and even though some of us this is a hobby business we still are not running a charity organization especially to those who can afford it! I love the spread sheet because it breaks it down in black and white and they can take it or leave it!

I use it all the time.
i modified it to go all the way to 1.5 in., and modified prices.
For simple pieces, i charge per cut inch using the spreadsheet,
15$ for loading/unload
5$ for each different part drawn, hourly if its more complicated.

I designed and posted the original Excel pricing worksheet a few years back. Here is an updated one I posted a little over a year ago. Feel free to use it and/or modify it as you see fit. Glad to see so many people are finding it useful.
