Customer wants their logo as a 3-D sign. Light behind it and full color, I have done some layered signs but nothing near this complex. Gonna be roughly 4ft.
Have any thoughts, advice or input of how you'd do it?
Ball park price?
Anyone able to convert this to DXF also?

Re: 3-D sign help
You have posted a jpg image witch is nothing but a picture. You can't just convert it to a DXF. You must trace it to create a DXF and by the looks of it that want be a easy job. It will be a very complex drawing. I would talk with the school and ask them for the file the artist created for their logo. That would save a lot of time.

Re: 3-D sign help
This can be done in Inkscape but it would take time as you would need to break the image apart and then select parts and move them around.
Also understand how to combine some in to a package to move and how to use the node tool to cut lines to separate other parts.
Attached is a sample of what I am talking about. To do the complete image would take about an hour to come up with cuttable parts. here is cutting the nodes/lines to separate section of the image for cutting different parts

Re: 3-D sign help
I downloaded Inkscape which I'm really liking already. Also the videos you sent really helped, but I'm having trouble figuring out how you took my JPEG image and turned it into a format you can work with on Inkscape like you showed above.acourtjester wrote:This can be done in Inkscape but it would take time as you would need to break the image apart and then select parts and move them around.

Re: 3-D sign help
PPD you need to select your JPEG image then select path at the top of the page then under the drop down menu select Trace Bitmap then hit OK and a vector image will be created on top of your JPEG. drag it off to the side and delete your JPEG and you will be able to manipulate it.
