#1 Award using Easyscriber

Post by weldguy »

I was asked to make awards for a local motocross event and I've been anxious to use my new Easyscriber on a real job so I came up with this idea. It actually ended up being very easy to accomplish and looked pretty sweet when it was done. These numbers will be mounted to a wooden base when all finished. Any other time I used my scriber I scribed first and cut last but since these were to be painted that was not an option. I ended up simply setting my vise on the cutting deck, clamped the number in place, picked up the corner and scribed the detail. Despite not being attached to the cutting table the vise didn't move at all and the only reason the scribing is not perfectly positioned is I didn't square the vise up on the table good enough. All in all I am pretty stoked about this little gadget and this project! I have attached the plasma and scribe dxf files for anyone that wants to give this a try.

Looks very nice there was a poster asking about the Easyscribe a short time ago, maybe this will help them.

In the FAQ here http://plasmaspider.com/shop/easyscriber.html it says it will work in a hand torch if the torch is securely mounted. I have seen some hand torch installations that were pretty flimsy so I could see that providing poor results when the scribe is in contact with the material.

I have a tracker 4x4 table with proprietory software that uses no post processor. My table has touch and retract height sensing so I just set my pierce delay to zero, THC off, "cut height" set to .250 and it works great. The torch drives down and fully depresses the easyscribe tip, lifts back up .250" so the tip is still partially depressed, and scribes anything on my screen. I find any speed between 100-200ipm works really well.

Thanks for sharing your settings! I have a Tracker 5x10 and I'm waiting on my Easyscriber. So now I'll know what settings to use when it arrives! ;-)

Wow this is cool. Is that a painted or powder coated surface your engraving on?

Great results. I have a diamond drag bit I can use with my CNC mill and was wondering if there was a simple way to use it with the CNC plasma machine. Maybe I can use some old torch tip parts and make a holder for mine. With mine I can adjust the spring/tension. The easyscriber looks like a great and simple setup.
