I'm looking for something Jeep?

Post by Scratch »

I'm looking for ideas on something to make for a giveaway. I want it to be something to do with Jeeps, and small enough so that I don't have to spend much on shipping. I don't mind if it needs welding so I'm also open to some type of a 3D option, although I don't want it to be too complicated. This is going to just be given away.

It could be a wall hanging thing like a sign or keyhook, or a desk top thing like a Jeep on a base. Could be just the word "Jeep" or could be an actual outine of a Jeep.  Could be a late model modern Jeep, or an old Willys. Not looking for a actual file, I can draw it up, (although I wouldn't turn away the time savings if you had one) could be a picture you saw online, or even a description of something. Just looking for different ideas.

And if you've seen something cool but doesn't say Jeep, maybe it says Ford or something, let me know that too please.

Let me know what you got or if you've seen anything cool!

Came up with some Jeep business card holders. I'm still tweaking the design, then I'll share the file here.

Willys Jeep 3D business card holder

Post by Scratch »

I think this is the final tweaked design. There is some text on the hood that I used the Easyscriber on that you'll want to remove but other than that, it seems to be ready to cut in 14 gauge. I'm not entirely happy with the tire tread, and I may change that or just make them completely smooth next time but whatever. Hope it works for someone. If you make any changes or do something cool with it, please post up here.

For some reason the DXF of this file won't upload, maybe it's corrupt for some reason... I'll have to make a trip out to the shop and try to get a fresh copy, but I did include a .CDR file so maybe you can convert that in the mean time.

Cool. I would try less and larger notches for the tread more akin to a military tire.

I don't get it.... I've went out to the shop and exported a new dxf from my cdr in Corel, even changed the name from "lil_willys4" to "4" just in case, and it still won't upload to the site. I tried uploading a couple other DXF's from previous drawings and they uploaded fine. Any one have any ideas? Or maybe I should upload it as an SVG, Is that a good one for everyone?

Hey Scratch, not sure whats wrong with your lil willy :HaHa :HaHa

Seriously though, I have found that Corel does poor job working with dxf file coming in or out.

Maybe it added too many nodes and increased the file size over 1Mb which is the limit I think.

Thanks Scratch.
We went on a Jeep building frenzy and came up with these...2 different sizes. Wifey is going to downsize the file to a smaller one yet just for the fun of it.

Thanks again.

Here is my effort. I made it to look as though it has been in the army for quite some time. Cut it for a mate of mine. Still need to paint it army green (camo) colour.

Pictures are in next post.

I cut this out of 3mm sheet.

I really don't know how I missed this before! I love the old CJ2A style Jeeps, and you came up with a great design. Very nicely done, and thanks for sharing. I have a friend who has 3 of them, plus an old military trailer that goes behind the jeeps. The military trailer would be a nice accessory for this model jeep.

Nice, glad everyone likes them and is having some fun with them. Maybe it'll give others some ideas or inspiration that not everything we make with these crazy CNC plasma tables has to be flat!

Very nice! I see you welded the hood lines up, and made the tires round. Looks better. And I really like the... I'm gonna call it "battleworn" look of yours with the grinder marks. I'll have to do that next.
See that's what I was hoping for... other brains to change or improve on my design... thanks!

And I wouldn't be a good flatfender owner and aficionado, if I didn't point out that you really should bend down the back half of the front fenders...

Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

I forgot to mention that I changed the wheels to being round as well as welding up the corners.

I will post a photo once I have painted it.

Cheers also for letting me know about the fenders. I completely forgot about that!!

Having some minor issues with the file. It is cutting the windows close to 1 side. However the file in mach3 shows it is ok...not sure what is happening.

Looks like everything is too far to the right, headlights, grill slots, bumper hole, everything. Did the piece move before it cut the final outline?

That was my thought as well. Make sure the sheet is clamped to the table so it can't slide around.
