Wildlife Scenery Firepit
Here is a firepit that some first-year welding students built. Pretty good projects for beginning welders. Can't really screw them up too bad!! Anyways, a thanks goes out to thissideup for the design of the firepit, and SignTorch and Jason @ freedxf.com for the deer, duck, bear, and turkey scenes.
In the .dxf file, there is a five-sided piece that we cut out to serve as a bending guide for the sides (angle was 145 degrees between sides and feet). The notch should be towards the top side. There are bootrail supports included that should match up to the angle of the sides, as well.
**may want to cut and build the sides of pit before cutting out the bottom to insure proper fit. After bending with rosebud, our bottom didn't fit quite as snuggly as intended.

Hi guys new at this. Awesome pit. What thickness are you using to cut this out of (1/8 in plate)?

That pit is 3/16". 1/8" would probably work fine for a fire pit, however. I am tempted to build a few and see how they withstand the heat. Definitely would be a little cheaper.bnechak wrote:Hi guys new at this. Awesome pit. What thickness are you using to cut this out of (1/8 in plate)?

Did you just heat and bend the bottoms or use a break?Scheub wrote:That pit is 3/16". 1/8" would probably work fine for a fire pit, however. We heated them with a rosebud torch. Wasn't too bad, but a brake would be a lot faster for sure. In the file, I drew a little angle gauge that we cut out and used to be sure it is bent to the correct angle, which worked pretty well. The half circle cut-out on the top of the angle gauge goes towards the top.

There is really no set position for the boot rail straps, other than we welded them flush to the top of the sides. I want to say we put them about 2" in from the corners, as well.Barnett_9437 wrote:Alright, Someone help me to know where the boot rail straps are positioned. Thanks in advance

Thank you . . . very nice . . .
OK, I admit I am puzzle challenged . . .
Where do the (8) little pieces go?
I'm thinking somehow they support the bottom.
I looked at the picture and I am stumped. . .

The 8 small pieces are supports for a boot rail... Just realized that I didn't include any pictures with the boot rail so I understand the confusion. We place them flush to top of the pit (2 per side), longer side facing down, and the add some thin-walled square tubing as a boot rail. The random 5-sided piece is used as a bend guide when bending the sides; just heat and bend to match the angle.

Re: Wildlife Scenery Firepit
I use 3/16" thick mild steel. 3/16" seems to be thick enough to not warp or rust through too bad, but light enough to not make the pit too terribly heavy. The wildlife pit was designed to be able to fit two pits on one 4' x 8' sheet.prophetproducts wrote:That's awesome! Thanks! What type and thickness of metal do you recommend?

Re: Wildlife Scenery Firepit
i love this pit design and how customizable it is. one quick question though, if i scale up the base plate to 18"x18" will everything line up correctly?
