4140 Chrome Molly Prep for powder coating.

Post by wghughes7 »

I have a customer that brought in a 1979 bicycle frame that is 4140 Chrome Molly. I was wondering do you blast it or how do I prep it so that the surface stays smooth for the powder coat? I told him no guarantees since it is chrome. Any info relating to chrome will be great help, thanks!

Treat it as you would any steel. You won't be able to tell the difference. I would blast it myself.

I do 4130 CM steel all the time. No problems at all and it blasts just like CR steel. Powders up nice.
