Converting from jpeg to DFX

Post by Stevecnoakes »

Hello All, I have a JPEG file from a fellow that wants me to cut out for a memorial for his friend, but I cannot find a way to convert to a DFX file that my computer will recognize. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know how to attach a picture to show you the sign.

Download inkscape and try an auto trace. There are tutorials on YouTube and lots of help threads on here also.
To attach a picture, click full editor at the bottom of the screen when typing your post.

Steve - you need to scroll down the Trace Bitmap window/tab to see the "Apply" button.

Upload the file at https://convertio.co/ and convert it to DXF. I've been amazed at how good the conversions can be. Just like with bitmap trace, it doesn't give you a cut ready file, but it speeds up the process of getting a DXF to work with.

That is some great advise! If you are using SheetCam to process, then I would recommend converting to svg instead of dxf due to the lower node count of the svg. For this particular image, Convertio did a great job!
