Another Floating Head

Post by msimpson99 »

In the past I built a couple floating heads for my CNC plasma cutters using hardened V-rails and V-bearings.

Here is one for an IP60 hand torch mounted on my CNCCS.

Here is another for a Hypertherm machine torch for my KRMx02 machine.

I wanted to experiment a little with different rails systems so I could design a floating head that was easyer to build.
Here is one based on 8mm shafts and truck bearings. The kind of bearings used on a 3D printer.
It is for a IP60 torch.

It works pretty good, but....
The bearings are a little too sloppy so they do effect the cut quality.

I decided to up the bearings and shafts a notch by moving to 12mm fully supported shafts.
These truck bearings have both upper and side adjustments for adjusting the pre-load.

Once I get a system working to my satisfaction, I will do a full write-up.
