#3 Table Build 5x10

Post by jones8907 »

Hello again everyone welcome to build #3 as the title says. I keep my instagram updated more than this thread more than likely end_iron_ is me.

Thought id take some time to lay out everything I am buying/bought and how Im working through this build. If everything goes as planned technically I will be building 2 at one time and one will be using the precision plasma gantry and the other will be linear railing. If the other comes through I will make a whole other thread for that one.

Lets talk about the controller and I will drop links to where I got everything as well.

Rolling with Myplasm https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... ht-control
4 KL-5056E drivers - https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... per-driver
1-570oz Nema 23 for the X axis https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... -570-oz-in
1 - 423oz Nema 23 for the Z - Had it already
2- 620oz Nema 23 for Y1 and Y2 - https://www.candcnc.net/store-home/620oz-motor/
1 Angry little fan https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... c-parts/fa
1 - Controller box https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... roller-box
Aviator plugs (just got extra), pins for the cpc port, a cpc port, new surge protector, 10 ft cable for power to controller box, mini wireless keyboard, 2 460w 24v power supplies - All from amazon.

Not done with it yet but getting there. Also I hate and love aviator pins for sure.

Other side of it.

Now onto the gantry. This is from the now closed precision plasma llc and if im not mistaken I have the last one he sold.

Here is the table design that I have came up with as well. I hope to be able to park a jet plane on it as well I guess. This table is also not very tall at all. I cannot stand a tall table and fetching parts off of them just frustrates me. All of my wiring will be around 20 ft so I can hopefully put everything in the back and run it form there. I have a 50ft machine torch for my Hypertherm PM85.
Screenshot_20230121-084126.png
I am currently building a 50x50x14 Red Iron shop right now as well due to me waiting on my electrical permit to be approved I am just working on random bits and pieces here and there. The permit package I submitted was 480/277 400Amp 3 phase with a 45kva stepdown transformer to a 208/230 3 phase subpanel so I can run normal 120 outlets etc. The county shot it down the first time due to it not being stamped but hopefully now that it is stamped I can get some resolution on this.

Thats enough for now any and all questions please feel free to ask.

Again I keep my instagram stories updated more than my youtube channel for sure. End_iron_

Looks interesting! I have heard complaints about tables being too low, but this is the first time I have heard about tables being too high. Good luck with your build and we will look forward to seeing your finished cutting table up and running.

Nothing wrong with building more then one table, just adds to the fun. They become easier by repeating what you have done before. :Yay
The aviator plug/jack assemble are nice, I changed from the 12 to the 16 to make is easier to solder them, but they are great panel connectors. They come in different pin numbers for increased signal handling ability. I use a 5 pin for motor cable so the shield is passed into the controller, and Cat 6 for switch signals.

What is the name of the aluminum material on the x axes and did you make the bearing bracket cages for it or are they off the shelf parts?

Very nice start. Once you get the table up and running can you please provide your thoughts/experience on the myplasm controller? A friend of mine wants to build his own table on a budget but I don’t want to recommend something I’m not familiar with.

I have used Myplasm for about 3 or 4 years. So I think everything has its place and can still get the job done. For example a ferrari and a civic will get you from A to B but some of these things have limitations and some of them are just good for getting the job done.
So to lay it out, their are like 7-10 systems that can be used for these tables. I am aware that their are probably like hundreds but the most common ones are Mach, Uccnc, Acron, MyPlasm, FlashCut and LinuxCNC that I see most DIY people attack.

I honestly thought about going with Acorn for this one but at 700$ for a height controller that runs off a loop and all kinds of sexyness that my customers wont really pay for I decided against it.

At the end of the day to me it comes down to what quality does the customer want?
---------I like making heavy attachments for equipment...they (customer) don't care what it looks like and painting it really isnt going to break the deal.
How reliable is the system at not missing steps/screwing up?
---------Since I am building it and the system is VERY simple with VERY few parts its really not a real brain buster to figure out what your issues are to fix them and get on with cutting so you can weld and move on.

I am happy that Lukasz is working on a Pro version and that this guy keeps on making fixes to make it better. Like I dont know many businesses or people that like to put themselves out there asking CONSTANTLY for feedback negative and positive.

Now. To the point of your question. It works and has always worked for me and I put down a LOT of hours on the last 2 tables that had it. Some people complain about things but honestly plasma has a lot of end user errors that they hate to admit. Also an unpopular opinion is that many people are just straight up lazy and dont want to put the time in to be better.

Hope that helped and your friend goes with the system and has a great experience.

This is the IVTAAQ railing from --> https://www.pbclinear.com/Products/Inte ... near-Guide

Bearing bracket cage is from the components from the kit...BUT... its 2 through pillow blocks for 3/8 or 1/2 shafts (mcmastercarr https://www.mcmaster.com/pillow-block-b ... meter~3-8/ )

or

go with 3/4 OD - from amazon PGN UCFL204-12 Pillow Block Bearing - Pack of 4 Flange Mounted Pillow Block Bearings - Chrome Steel Bearings with 3/4" Bore, Self Alignment

or

1/2 ones PGN UCFL201-8 Pillow Block Bearing - Pack of 4 Flange Mounted Pillow Block Bearings - Chrome Steel Bearings with 1/2" Bore, Self Alignment

The gear racking can be found here. https://www.automation-overstock.com/pr ... sp?cat=190

Something like this for gear reduction. --> Zeberoxyz 2PCS Set GT2 Synchronous Wheel 20&60 Teeth 8mm Bore Aluminum Timing Pulley with 2PCS Length 200mm Width 6mm Belt (20-60T-8B-6)

Thank you for the info. I went with candcnc electronics and controller on my table. I cut a lot of thin stuff and random small pieces of heavy plate, I love the torch height control of this system but the price tag is hefty. Yeah if you’re cutting thick plate all the time a really fast thc really isn’t that important. I’m going to tell him to go with it. Thanks again

Started by using the evolution saw and quickly regretted not buying a new blade...that I literally had in my hand earlier but thought it was good enough....it was not. Had to end up using the portaband milwaukee saw.

Welded 2-4 inch pegs directly to the table this time. The sheet is 10ga so it should be fine. I will need to push it down and tac it to the cross members. I am trying to weld everything prior to putting anything electric to the table. I just dont want to have anything screw up the motors or controllers if I were to attach anything. The only items I will have to fit will be the sensors on the floating head. I never put any stops on it which I will reget not doing one day for the next person that owns the machine haha.

I really want to make another table and do it out of linear railing and such later in the future one day. At that time id even like to potentally make tables literally on the side basically.

Either way fun stuff.

Here are the 4 inch slats. I got on there.

Here you will see the most redneck way to fill a plasma table and it worked. Borrowed a friends tote and filled that bad boy up and drive it over considering I dont have a well on my property yet.

No leaks no issues either.

And here is where I found the biggest issue where the controller and my gears were all messed up and I had a loose gantry and a loose motor making all kinds of dumb messed up cuts.

BUT I got it fixed.

Well it will be fairly easy to correct, just some time, Some software make it simple to do steps per for the sizing issue. The rest is getting the slop out making all things tight. Looks like your working on the table moving square, the old corner to corner measuring is quick if you have a torch positioning laser.

You're making great progress!! Also - to add to what Tom has said - it is often times helpful to use a sharpie pen holder in place of the torch and simply draw your circles and squares instead of cutting them. This will give the same feedback, but without wasting the valuable material. That's what I did when I was getting started with my plasma table, and I have done the same with my cnc router tables when I was getting them dialed in.

Heck yeah. I put a pin in all of the gear shafts basically by drilling them out and putting a pin in it. So no more allowing them to just let go basically.
