Torch cut height issue

Post by HavasuDan »

Hi all,

I am experiencing some sudden issues with my system.

Config:
5X10 PP Table
CandCNC BladeRunner Package
CommandCNC Linux
SuperZ
DTHC5
HT 45XP

Everything is updated and current from applications to firmware.

Everything has worked flawlessly since the system was built about a year ago. Quality of cut on everything was more than I expected.

All of a sudden quality of cut went away.

Started from scratch with cleaning, re calibration, setup, updates....everything. I went back to the book to follow initial setup guides for DTHC.

I am following the manual testing and setup guide.

I setup two 20 inch test lines. 16 gauge CRS
Run the test with "DTHC Off" and in "DTHC Manual" mode
Target voltage per post processor shows 128v (also what Hypertherm cut chart shows)
Actual voltage shows between 100-109v during cut with NO DTHC
click DTHC on and it shows 128v, lifts torch to achieve voltage (assumption) but quality is terrible at best.

The manual says if more than 10% difference between set value and actual value during manual cut with no DTHC then STOP.

The manual does not offer guidance as to how to proceed.

This machine has been flawless since building it over a year ago with no issues of cut quality. In fact I have been blown away with the quality of parts it produces.

I use the same setup/config/zeroing and calibration procedures EVERY time I use it.

I have been through the setup guide MULTIPLE times and believe I have covered every aspect of verifying configuration and process of every component from air quality, filters, pressure, cooler/dryer, consumables, cables, connectors, calibrations, etc..

I continue to come back to the DTHC test and find that the voltages are more than the 10% stated in the manual and as the book states "is the very most important thing".

I am simply looking for guidance as to what to do next. Tom C. is not available on the weekend and I thought maybe one of you might guide me.

Thanks for the thought.

While deep in the rabbit hole I put 12 years and three degrees to work.

Started chasing the basic principles.

Life's issues can be very simple sometimes. Not sure how it happened but....
