After looking at the top one you can see each of the moving parts are a series of cupped discs pairs. There are 2 large discs mounted near the center pivot point shown in red
then the next size smaller following this pattern out to the tip. Each "S" section is mounted on a tubular circle which passes through the center pivot point of each section. Each is linked to the next section so as they rotate about the tubular circle together in a inside out pattern.

If I could afford one I would just sit in my yard and watch it all day.
