Military inspired BBQ

Post by Jay Gadsby »

Hey all, just thought I would share a little project I worked on earlier this year for the college. We were part of a welding competition in Burnet where we had to assemble and do all welding onsite. I designed it all in AutoCAD, and most all of it was burned on CNC plasma table. Anyhow, sadly we did not win 1st place, but we were all very proud none the less.

Here is a rendering in AutoCAD...

The pile of parts it produced. Quite a few different cuts in there.

And the finished product. After the BBQ competition was over, this was presented as a trophy to the 2nd place team, so we didnt get to finish it all. But, I do have all the DXFs (still need to brush up the blueprints for assembly) so it can be made again.

Thanks for looking all!

Very nice! But if that's the second place trophy, what was the first place trophy?

Sore subject, but here we go haha.

The administration that put this event on dispersed guidelines to all attendees prior to the competition. The rules stated NO LARGER THAN 48 X 48, no depth specified. I verified this information the morning of the weld off with the boss man. Ok... so, the other school, who shall remain nameless, showed up with dirty, rusty metal and created a Santa Maria grill that was damn near 7 feet long and 7 feet tall.. WWWAAAAYYYYYY outside the parameters. BUT, the "judges" for the competition were...high school kids... It was a close contest, but in the end we lost and the boss man proved to not have a pair... oh well, next year it is on like Donkey Kong... its too bad people cannot follow rules.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought there was a BBQ "grilling" competition, with food... and your grill was the second place trophy. I see now it was a welding/fab competition.

Still, great looking grill you should be proud!

It was actually both, a high school level cook off and a college level welding competition that supplied the cooks with their trophies.
