40ft Gate Finally Installed

Post by sbest1 »

Previously I posted 2 20ft Gates we designed and cut. After waiting for the snow to melt and the ground to thaw, we finally got a photo of them installed.

I sure hope those pipes that the gates swing on are STRONG. Those gates provide a lot of leverage. A fat kid swinging on the end of the gate could bend those posts at the base very easily. They sure sook nice, but I question their ability to remain aligned.

It looks like a tremendous amount of work and material expense. But if you decide to do one, please post photos to show us how it turned out.

I wonder how much pre-tensioning he put into the gate. The long rectangle would ant to droop at the end under its own weight. so I imagine that the gate was built as a parallelogram, so that when hung, it would come out as a rectangle. If he welded it as a rectangle and then hung it, I am surprised that it did not distort under the weight.
