Powermax 85 sweating
Cut these bucket mounts from 1.75 inch thick QT100 with my powermax 85. Wasnt sure if the machine would blow up or not as it was a hot day and I was running it wide open for around 20 minutes straight then would stop and let the fan stop before continuing the cut. Was impressed that it cut it, tho I think it is time to look for an oxyfuel head as this is way beyond the machines rated capacity.

What thickness?
Nevermind. I see it says 1.75".

No. Thats the only reason I posted it. Nothing special about the ears. But there is something great about the thickness, esp with only 85 amps.

Re: Powermax 85 sweating
Are you sure it's not .75'' instead of 1.75''? If it is 1.75'' you got a heck of a machine, I've done 1'' mild steel with my 85 amp and the cut was not as straight as yours, for the big holes you probably drilled a hole first with a drill...no way the machine pierced 1.75'' steel. Anyway you did a fantastic job if this is 1.75'' thick!

That is freaking incredible. I cant even do near that good on 1" with my powermax 85. That blows me away. What was the IPM?

Re: Powermax 85 sweating
I set it at 2.5 ipm as a starting point, ended up using 4-5 ipm. I discovered a 75 cent powermax upgrade one day a year or so ago from frustration that i will try to post when i have time.It will make yours cut like mine. I will probably post it in the hypertherm section tho.bigcreek wrote: Thu Jun 22, 2023 11:07 pm That is freaking incredible. I cant even do near that good on 1" with my powermax 85. Re: Powermax 85 sweating
Cutnweld - Just curious - what is your 75 cent upgrade - in a few words? Maybe just give us a hint. I have a powermax 85 and perhaps it would apply to my machine as well.
Thanks,
David

Re: Powermax 85 sweating
I happen to know cutnweld, and run the same "upgrade" on my table. Many thanks to him for sharing this. Without it I get ugly beveled cuts on 3/8. With it, nice straight cuts on 1" which is the thickest I have cut yet with my PM 85.
The 75 cent fix is just a rubber o-ring, installed where indicated by the arrow in this screenshot from cutnweld's cutting picture above. Seems to stop some of the excessive air blow-by (for cooling purposes or what???) and increases air pressure at the nozzle.
Cutnweld is free to chime in with corrections or additions.

Re: Powermax 85 sweating
My thought exactly. I assume he is using a Duramax torch with his Powermax 85. I also have a Duramax torch on my 85 and get good clean cuts on 3/8" material - not ugly ones. Most all plasma cuts will have some bevel, and I believe the bevel angle decreases as the material thickness increases.

Re: Powermax 85 sweating
Very interesting, thanks for posting back. When I have the chance I will look deeper into this with my PM65 torch.
