Optional Torch Attachments

Post by acourtjester »

I have printed attachments for my plasma table before, and decided to print other that would attach to the plasma torch itself. Here are 3 that I come up with, first is an Ink Pen, next a Drag Knife, and a diamond scribe. These simply side on the torch even with the Ohmic sensor contact connector in place. They are held tight with set screws against the torch body. If anybody wants the STL files just PM me with your email and I will send them via the Google drive for you to download.

I had a request for a sharpie holder, this is what I come up with, files free for the asking, or I can print you one.
This is for the fat sharpie type.

Nice Tom, another torch mounted accessory that would be useful would be a laser pointer holder so a laser pointer could be attached right at the top of the torch out of the splash zone. That way the laser is guaranteed to be in perfect alignment and perpendicular to the torch barrel.

It would only be a one piece part.

Tom - thanks for sharing those! These are very handy for testing out designs and cut paths without actually wasting any metal in the process. Also great for troubleshooting when problems arise to check for mechanical issues vs. programming problems.

I have a laser crosshair mount I put on the Z axis assembly shown in this video. Mounting on the torch would require the laser to be angled to show the center of the torch. I think you would then need to have the torch always at the same height to achieve that center indicator.

Ahh, with Linuxcnc, there is no need to get the crosshairs under the torch tip as the QTplasmac config allows you to set the X,Y, offsets from the tip to the laser and simply set the work coordinates to the laser position. In this case, you want the laser beam parallel to the torch body.
We can also align a rotated sheet using the crosshairs as shown here.

I have been meaning to machine up a laser mount that clamps to the torch body to get my laser up a lot higher and out of the road as my laser gets a lot of splash where it is located. A 3D print would be a lot easier to make.
