Mad Printer at it again

Post by acourtjester »

For fun I wanted to develop a cardboard cutting Drag Knife, this is what I came up with. Files free for the asking.
Either a torch or flat bar type mount, torch mount shown.

Nice work Tom! What is your depth of cut and cut speed in your video? That is a cool tool that I could adapt to my cnc router.

Yes fairly easy the shaft the it rotates on is 8 MM (.314" just over 5/16") so if they have a 5/16" collet for the router for the shaft would fit into. Or I also have a 3-D printed shaft holder that can be attached to a flat bar for mounting to the router holder.

Sorry I forgot to answer that I use a router tool in SheetCam and cut depth is 0.050" per for the total depth of the cardboard and 35 IPM.
It should also have a soft material under the cardboard so the blade and penetrate and not break the blade tip. I used another layer of cardboard, I have seen others using cork sheets.

For anyone wanting to get started with 3D printing and looking to purchase a printer, I highly recommend the Monoprice MP Voxel. I have had one for over a year now and it works great with very high quality prints. It is actually manufactured by FlashForge and rebranded for Monoprice. The FlashForge Adventurer 3 is pretty much identical and can be had on Amazon for $369, which is a savings over the Monoprice.

:Like Nice choice, for those thinking about a 3-D printer do it, it expands you list of projects, and reinforces you using CAD and CAM software. Many look at them a toys but when you see the things you print and use you look at them as a tool. You can make things like optional attachments to you equipment to fun stuff like a back scratcher as a gift. I have printed part for a new dust collector for my CNC Router. Even a handle guard for our toilets (the cat has learned to flush it for entertainment. :HaHa :Love
