Which press brake to buy

Post by cutnweld »

Hi everyone, I would like to purchase a press brake. Any thots on brands? I saw a 200 ton10 foot LAG with auto crowning, CNC backgauge with Delem controls. 55K Canadian dollars. Of course it was already sold. Where do you folks purchase, is there a magic place somewhere that has a shed full to sell? :Yay

Used. I got a quote for a new masteel, 200k all in, a little more than I can afford. If I can find good used the next step will be getting approved for a lease to own...

What about an Accurl or Harsle-Machine? Very strongbuilt looking press brakes.

Has anyone bought direct from china? Harsle has nice looking machines on aliexpress with delem controllers... fair enough prices. I like made in America, however I fear that most machines over here come from overseas anyways, due to red tape costs over here we cant be competitive in machine manufacturing prices. For example I though long and hard of building my own brake. Locally 1" Strenx 100 sells for 100 dollars a square foot. 1 5x10 sheet is 5k. I would need several sheets, preferably even thicker and thus more expensive, not to mention hydraulic system and control system. Or I can buy ready to go CNC with free shipping for around 40k. What gives over here?

For a good deal on a new press brake, visit the FabTech show in Chicago. buy the one they dragged to the convention center and work the deal. They would rather sell it for less and take it to YOUR SHOP than bring it back to the factory. I was once offered almost $40,000.00 off of a laser table for just that reason. I should have bought it, but life got in the way, and I had to let it go.

This^^^^^ but I think the show is in Atlanta this year.. It moves back and forth if I remember correctly..
I"ve used accupress before and I liked it.. The Wila tooling is worth it even though its stupid expensive and while you are at it the automatic clamping is a game changer. It seems like a waste but the tool box for the punches and dies is worth it..
They are very innovative especially if you haven't come from a bending background..
Lots of learning curves on how to bend stuff that the newer equipment helps you with.
The new equipment will make a pro out of someone who was good, and a decent operator out of a rookie..'
The down side to new equipment is board failures and computer stuff..
Good luck on your purchase.

Thanks. I tend to take a long time to make up my mind, I am leaning toward a direct china import, even tho it feels wrong due to the fact that I never wanted to support that country... the price is hard to beat, especially when you figure in the Delem controls and multi axis backgauge

Multi axis back gages are so handy..
Make sure you have support for whichever brake you buy.. Boards do go out. And you will need help trouble shooting them.

For me it was between Durma and Accurpress, the Durma was a little less money, but when I found out they were made in Turkey I kind of shied away and went with the Accurpress which is built in America. That was a little more than a year ago, since then I know guys who have bought Durma and haven't looked back, they have the Delem control which apparently is a widely used controller. Just my 2 cents.....
