JET SLIP ROLL

Post by Dawgonhawg »

Does anyone have the Jet 50" x 16 ga electric slip roll? If so how well does it work? Have you rolled heaver then 16 ga and if so what gage and how wide was the material? Thanking of buying one but would like some input.

Thanks, Dawg

Just so you don't feel lonely. I don't own a Jet but do have an old Roper Whitney/Pexto 36" rated for 16 gauge. I can roll 1/4" plate up to about 12" wide in it without it complaining too bad.
My feeling is for the money you would spend on a new JET you would be better off looking for a used older USA made machine that was built to last forever, given some care. But that is just me $.02, take it for what it is.

Thank you Dennis for your reply. That is good to know. Is your roll a manual or electric? I will be surprised if a new Jet will roll 1/4 in material.

I purchased my roll as a manual but since have modified it and added a gear reduction motor and foot pedal. Having it powered allows me to use it alone on some larger stuff that would require two people otherwise. It has 3" rolls and with 1/4" you have to take it a little at a time but it can be done.

I don't remember exactly. If I get time I will have to remove the guard and see if the tag is legible. I just bought a gear reduction motor off ebay and played with gear ratios till I got the speed that was OK. It could be a little slower but it works. I believe the motor was geared down to about 40rpm and with the gears I got it to about 18rpm.??
I started with a manual forward reverse switch but operating that with large items alone became a pain in the arse so I rewired to a foot switch forward and reverse.

Interesting, post pics.
I want to sell this one and find one that will roll 10-12 gauge. I'm always pushing the limits on this thing. But it is built like a tank.
