Sheet metal rollers

Post by RGR »

I looked so hopefully this is tn a repost. I wanted you guy's opinions on a ring roller to roll metal plate. I wanted to find one that can do 1/8 but I keep seeing 16ga-20ga rollers. I want to make some round fire pits for me and my family as gifts. And I think a good roller would be a good tool to have on hand. I know a lot of you guys have one so what can you recommend me to buy??? Thanks! Everyone here is always a great help!

I would scan craiglist, ebay, etc for an older slip roller from Pexto, Roper Whitney that is rated for 10 gauge.
I have a 36" pexto rated for 16 gauge, which is what should handle full length. It will roll 12 gauge fire rings, 12" wide but it complains. I have converted this roller to motorized so that may be part of the problem and I may fool with gearing when I get time.
I am always searching for a replacement rated for 10 gauge.
Now I like the older American made machines. Some here will also tell you to look at Baleigh, Jet, etc. and they will probably work for your needs.

When you say "older" is that a 1950's machine or 70's era? I know that now a lot of equipment is import, but I'm not sure when this big import era really started. If I had to guess Id say 1980's? I'll look for the brand names you said and see what I can find. Thnaks for your help, gets me pointed in the right direction

My "older" machines are from the 50's - 60's era. But I think you are correct the real flood of imports started in the '80's.

I found an "older" Niagra slip roll that works fine for me. Rated to 11 gauge, I can roll 12" wide stuff all day. Sure, it cost more than an imported model similar, but I have no doubts that I will ever wear it out or break it.

the 2 bolts are used to pressure adjusting to change the diameter, not something for mass producing very many but for a few fire pits it may do for you..

have fun
