Aluminum Welding Practice Projects

Post by Killerpea »

I don't really want to weld up a bunch of squares or triangles. Anyone have suggestions for aluminum shop projects? Maybe lightweight boxes to stand cars on? Whatever else?

What alloy aluminum and thickness do you plan to use? Will you be gas welding or tig? What welder do you have? I assume you want to cut out some pieces with a cnc plasma table and then weld them together?

I've got a Miller 251. I was planning on using 1/8 material or something close to that. Yes....looking for something to cut out on a plasma table and then weld.

Sounfs like you possibly want to make some stuff that u can keep after practice welding, instead of just practice shapes that u work on and likely might just throw away when completed .
Maybe look up in the search box yard art or something along those lines. There should be something that interests you. But it is a wild guess for me what may be cool to you. Heck some here may want squares and pyramids laying around and think its cool to have.

Ramps
Flatbeds
Job boxes
Truck tool boxes
Tool box
Steps
Ladders
Carts

I would use the stuff out of a 4' tall toolbox cart with steps build into it so you could walk up it and stand on top of it to work

Anything that needs to move or be carried is good out of aluminum.
