New here from Michigan!

Post by SquareHammerStudios »

Hello Plasma Spiders. Got me a sweet (so far!) new machine and I've been running it for about a month now. Realizing this site is a GREAT resource as I've been lurking a bit. Lots of you know your stuff! I got a Langmuir Systems Crossfire XR and have been learning Inkscape and Fusion 360 since the day I put the deposit down on my machine. So far I've been making cool stuff for surprises for just about anyone that has ever done any kind of favors for me. I've really been enjoying surprising all my peeps with cool stuff I know they will like.
Looking forward to sharing lots of files here with you all in the future!

Keep on cutting friends!

David

welcome aboard, It is neat to see the faces of someone you made a cool thing for, and they say "you made that for me"
Lots of cool wall hangers posted here for you to download too. Understand you can attach optional tools to your table for more fun.
Routers, Drag Knifes, Pen Plotters, Rotary cutter, and Diamond Scribes are some.

Have fun
Tom

Welcome to the forum David! Tom show some great examples of some of the different ways to use our cnc equipment. What sorts of "surprises" have you been creating? Perhaps share a few photos so we can get a better idea.
Thanks,
David

Thanks for the warm welcome and tips guys!

Tom, I agree that was the best part is seeing their faces when they realize you did something for them out of the blue. Those are some cool pieces there also. I also like doing layered projects!

David, I figured out how to run my machine on my own, now lets see if i can figure out how to post pictures on here!

Hopefully that worked. This was literally my first ever project after cutting 3 small letters and a few address numbers to test my machine. It is layered 18ga cold rolled. I did this for my buddy, who is actually the person that convinced me to get a cnc machine after wanting one for over 25 years. He is battling cancer right now and I was able to get this done for him before he started his treatments.

That Wolverine is about 24" wide.

This one was for my father in law's birthday, and its about the same size.

I've done 2 of those wolverines so far, and I've got several other things cut and ready for paint. Also several projects drawn up and ready to cut. Paint is definately my bottleneck.

Tom, what is your method for attaching your layers? So far I've been using 3M double sided tape made for car moldings and seems to be working good so far!

Here is my first paid project (with the machine). A guy I know is building a 12' tall steel palm tree for his back yard! These are the leaves for it and he'll be welding round bars in between and bending them in to the shape of the leaves. These are 4', 3' and 2' long. There are 65 of them in this picture, but i cut 80 total! If I calculated correctly it was roughly 2500 FEET of cutting!

Thank you very much guys! I had to go back and look at the pics in my phone, I actually assembled the table March 3-5, so 2 months! Ha!

It did take me a few days to get some bugs out and start cutting anything. Time flies when you're having fun!

There are a few different methods for attaching the layers. There is a double sided tape used on Cell phones screens very thin, thick super glue, another thicker adhesive called E6000. The E6000 is more like the old RTV but really is tough and very flexible will stick to about anything.
You have the technique down for the on your layered plaques, your side hustle will bring in some good coins. :Yay
Good luck for your friend with his treatment.
