Plasma now natively supported in Linuxcnc

Post by Rodw »

Linuxcnc has recently released Version 2.8 as the release version in the last few days.
There are too many enhancements to

That means the new Plasmac plasma configuration is deployed with a standard install of linuxcnc
See https://linuxcnc.org/
follow the link to the download page to grab the Debian 10 Buster PREEMPT_RT iso
https://linuxcnc.org/downloads/
which should take you to this download link
http://www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.8.0-buster.iso
Just burn to a USB stick and boot from that USB to use either a live install from the USB or to install the software.
There are several other Linuxcnc Distribution options. Raspberry Pi is natively supported and there is a Linux Mint distribution available on the Linuxcnc forum.

For more info about plasmac, the manual is part of the core Linuxcnc docs and is available here
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/pla ... guide.html

and some background info about plasma on the Linuxcnc site here:
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/pla ... rimer.html

For best support, it would be better to use the linuxcnc forum where there are many experienced users willing to help that do not frequent this forum.

Perhaps the moderators may wish to create a new section called "Linuxcnc - Plasmac" for this software as it bears no relationship with Command CNC.
If so, it would be great if this post could be moved there.

Rod thanks for the invite, but i am disappointed as usual with this forum and nothing but adds from a chosen few, there are 4 topics besides yours and none of them have anything to do with PlasmaC.
I was going to upload some pictures of the last machine i built and some stuff cut on it using PlasmaC, but i see no point in doing that.
Regards,
Tom.

Tommy, Those posts are set by the admin to show on every sub forum so it's just how the forum is set out.

And yes there is a lot of content and cut ready files available if you pay a subscription. I will say the guys here are helpful with technical issues.

Hey Tom

Just saw your post and wanted to clarify that this linux forum was created yesterday at Rod's request and as a result it currently has no posts however I expect that as time goes on this will be full of great topics. There are actually plenty of good linux topics scattered around the site that need to be rounded up and moved here but that may take some time.

The posts you mention at the top are site wide announcements not ads and are providing free designs and notifying members of current giveaways and freebies. These posts are at the top of all pages so everyone can see them and have fun. Anyone who wants to give swag away to our members can take part in this not just a chosen few.

Since this is a new forum and looks a little different than busier ones I wanted to clarify these points and hope that you will find this new forum to be enjoyable in the future :Yay
