Langmuir plasma fires torch then raises up too high

Post by Patriot Steel »

Torch will pierce then move to cut may cut a small part of the file then torch will start to raise on its own slowly until the torch goes out and just leaves a scortched line.Doesnt matter what file i use new or old just started this out of the blue does this in Inkscape and Fusion and i have no idea why. Any thoughts ?
Thanks

Are you using a THC? It sounds like the voltage is dropping causing the THC to raise to try and raise the voltage.

Yes, Fire Control but watching the voltage seems good

I'm going to turn the THC off and see if it still happens..

I would recommend testing your torch control cable (cable from plasma cutter to controller) to make sure it is firmly connected to both the plasma cutter and the controller. If it turns out your torch control cable is bad, then I would assume you can purchase a spare from Langmuir.

Your issue will have nothing to do with Inkscape ore Fusion, this sounds like a THC issue so you have the right idea to turn it off and see how it goes.

If your using settings that have always worked in the past it is possible you are not getting an arc voltage signal to your controller. You can test that with a multimeter if you know where the 2 wires are connected in your controller.

Troubleshooting problems can be confusing. it is good you asking questions. Lots of experiences here and we share, part of troubleshooting is separation to gain a direction to look. keep going it will be fixed.
the torch goes out as the control looses the Arc OK signal when it is to far, same as moving off the side of the metal.

There are lots of good ideas here. As weldguy says - if you have the ability to test your arc voltage while while your machine is cutting - than that maybe a great place to start your troubleshooting. I would recommend disabling your thc for this test so that the cut height remains constant and you have a relatively stable arc voltage while taking your measurement.
