Stainless Steel Water Pan

Post by alanmccabe »

HI all, I am just finishing up my 4x4 build and now I need a water pan, what are your thoughts I was quoted £360 for a stainless on made from 2mm 304 grade is it worth paying a bit extra for and getting stainless.

Thanks in advance

I built my 4x4 water pan from 11 ga. CR Steel. At the time I built it in 2017 the material cost was around $100 vs. over $300 for stainless steel. I was on a budget so opted for the less expensive approach. I add Hangstefer's S500 water soluble coolant/cutting oil to the water to help minimize rust. If you can afford it, I would go for the 304 stainless steel.

If I were to do it again I would go stainless and have the corners bent up and just weld the corners instead of the picture frame way where you weld sheet to the picture frame angle. Tons of warpage.

Hangsferters coolant are definitely not designed for use in CNC plasma tables. The heat abd uv light may make chlorine gas. Even trace amounts are not healthy. Machining coolant has no place in the plasma stream. Just an FYI
