Retired road sign re purposing

Post by Pyro1983 »

Has anyone ever used old retired road signs as a source of aluminum to cut from? I have acquired a few (yes, legally!) And I was just curious about the best way to remove the reflective sticker that is the actual signage. It's fairly thick, super sticky, and strong! Also, would cutting it still attached but facing down work? Or would it create dross issues?

I wouldn't cut them at all. Make tables and clocks, etc. out of them! Create frames that match the shapes, and sell them.

I just bought one of these a few weeks ago and it would likely do the trick.
it claims to have 1001 uses, but would likely remove the reflectives, making short work of it. The scraper that they provide was pretty good quality which I used to remove something similar..

Yes they can be cut stickers side down, with the work clamp attached directly to the piece.

That's a great idea for repurposing those old signs!
