My You Tube Playlist on DesignEdge Software

Post by Joe Jones »

It occurred to me that there are many new PlasmaCam DHC2, Samson 510 and Go Torch owners who may not be aware of my You Tube channel. I have a playlist of videos showing you how to do various things using DesignEdge software. I add videos now and then, as the mood strike me.

Most of the videos are created to answer questions posed by one or more table owners. It is easier to make a video, than to try to explain things over a phone, repeatedly, to many people. so I make these amateur videos in the hopes that people can learn something from them, and become more proficient at using DesignEdge software. There are currently 425 videos at this link. Have fun!

Holy cow! I can't believe I have recorded so many videos. and THOSE are just the DesignEdge vids.

That does not include the umpteen political vids I have made, along with so many others.

Well, I hope you get something out of them. They are amateur, and unstructured. I have thought about assembling a real course for DesignEdge, but I am not sure I would get a large response. People tend to not want to spend money on anything in this shaky economy.

I hope your 2023 is better than "The covid years" were, Robert. I am glad you are still pursuing the classes. I hope you get full attendance! You have a lot of knowledge to share with newbies and long term table owners alike. I would actually attend one, just for fun, and probably learn a thing or two, if I could arrange for it. I am covered up with tasks that prevent such a luxury.

Way back in the mid 80's I used to write computer programs, but I was not very good at it. A friend of mine was a computer code genius. He would look at my programming and laugh. "Why did you use 100 lines of code, to do something that can be done in ten lines?" he would ask.

"Prove it!" I would challenge him.

He'd type away on the keyboard like Jim Carey answering prayer requests in "Bruce Almighty" and his program would do the exact same thing my program did in only ten lines of coding. I was in awe of his programming skills and knowledge of machine code. He called my programming "Spaghetti code." He once ran a fully functional computer BBS system with over a hundred users on a TIMEX SINCLAIRE computer, just to prove that it could be done! Imagine that!

We both have good knowledge of DesignEdge, but we take different approaches. I know we both enjoy helping people.

I know a guy who is nothing less than A GOD AMONG MEN to me. His knowledge of computers, circuitry, satellites, aeronautics and probably time travel are amazing! He tells me that the PlasmaCam controller is "a junior high school electronics project from the Stone Age..." He says the PlasmaCam table can be controlled by a regular cnc controller with some simple programming, and bypass the hallowed $3,000.00 controller box and the parallel cable altogether. He is so busy with other things though, and I cannot afford his rate to make that a priority. :Sad

Just be careful. The process of controlling the height of a plasma cutting table using arc voltage feedback and a personal computer is patented by Plasmacam. :-)

Curious ... other table manufacturers of plasma tables, laser tables, etc. offer height control similar to PlasmaCam's patented method. HOW do they do it, if they do not use arc voltage feedback?

They pay PlasmaCAM.

Oh, okay. So they all pay PlasmaCam for the right to use that technology? Awesome.

What am I missing here? Pretty near every manufacturer I can think of uses arc voltage feedback.

Evidently they all pay PlasmaCam for the right to do so, according to Robert. If PlasmaCam has a patent on the process, I would imagine that this is the case.

They don't, and until today I was unaware that anyone was paying them. I am confident that they would serving papers to all the manufacturers if that was the case, they are super picky about things like that. Must be more to that specific case.

I agree weldguy. Many manufacturers use a version of thc (dhc) by monitoring the divided arc voltage and adjusting the cut height (feedback loop). I think maybe Robert was "pulling his leg".

Guys, there is a difference between using arc voltage feedback to a box on the table and using arc voltage feedback interpreted by a personal computer.

The patent has just expired so it’s fair game now but regarding the past, no leg pulling. Look up Patent 7071441.

Thanks Robert, I wasn't doubting the patent they have, I was doubting that anyone was paying them.

Sure thing - if you wade through the stuff on the case law link I posted you will find the settlement that was paid by CNC.
