Tool & Garage Organization Thread

Post by Acanswers »

I was thinking it might be nice to have a post dedicated to getting things organized. I've seen a couple grinder holders, wrench trays, tool carts, etc. If anyone has some good organization stuff to post it would be greatly appreciated. Even if it's just pictures for ideas. We just finished up a rotating desk for the end of our Torchmate table and I think I'm going to make a couple of sunglass holders, tape measure clip, and welding hammer hook to the side, etc. Just wondering if any of you have done some stuff like that and you might want to share.

I second the notion. I know we have the project section and I've contributed there and I've used the whole site and very appreciative of the talent and sharing of all. But I get a kick out of making my own tools and stuff so it would be nice to have a file and picture sharing forum dedicated to this area of interest.

I've browsed quite a bit on the internet for such info. There's quite a bit but the hard stuff to find is the creative solutions that really utilise every bit of air space, while making the tools readily accessible.

I'm guessing a lot of us need that with our DIY limited space workshops.

I agree. I love making my own tools and organizers. There are a lot of great applications for the plasma table for making neat little gadgets. I made several of the the vice grip racks that Redlunn posted a while back and me and my friends love them. I liked his idea so much I modified it and started making air tool racks from 14 ga. They have been very popular with friends too and I have sold quite a few. This is my first attempt to post a file for sharing but it is about time. Not sure if this is the right place to post it either so hopefully the admin will move it if not.

Hope you can use!

Larry

First one of these I made took about 3 hours with a die grinder. Bet this one goes a tad quicker. :-)

Air Tool Racks as I do them, also has a spot for the never present Air Tool Oil.
I powdercoat them in a single stage "Chrome" which is really just a silver not a two stage Chrome look.
I also do some in Black Wrinkle... The two end holes are 16" on center to fit stud C2C width.
I bend them in the sheet metal brake so there are no slots...

I also have a Visegrip rack that hangs them from the adjusting screw instead of the jaws.

ETA I make them from 18 ga sheet, works fine but I don't have the weakening brakeless bend slots.

I'll Share some recent ones. My measuring drawer was too full. You'd probably have to customize it to your squares, Bevel Guages, etc but maybe sparks and idea

My new Favorite! I have always stored my big c clamps on the edge of this shelf. Takes to long to tighten them each down so they end up hanging there. All good until I reach behind them and they crash to the ground! Inspired by the vise grip rack posted I drew it up for my clamps (the first two on the left are bigger) I also clearanced two of my other clamps to fit the "standard" notch

Spray can holder

Post by Russ K »

Here is a nifty spray can holder. This particular file is my own but the idea is not. I saw a similar one on this forum or perhaps the Plasma Pig forum. Sorry I don't have the name of the originator of the idea. If you are out there please chime in and take the credit!.................RK

This is for the 16" on center Vise Grip Rack, I cut them from 18 Ga and do the bends in the Brake.
I make a light Kick up half inch in then bend 90 1/4" behind the slots, the Tools hang from the adjustment screw.

Not original idea, but these were drawn from scratch by me. I didn't see one on this thread, I thought I would contribute.

1. This would likely require a good bend/brake.

2. I don't use guards, so this design MAY not work with grinders that have guards. see pics.

Thanks to everyone else that shared their ideas and plans.

What a great idea and great thread. Thanks to all!!! We should also add Scratch's chainsaw chain holder here as well, I use that one all the time and have it right next to the chain sharpener.
