You would need to convert the original dxf to svg, then open with inkscape and measure the lengths.

No need to convert. Inkscape will open dfx.

Please show me how to import dxf R14 to Inkscape. It only offers import dxf R13, which produces errors when importing R14 files. These days - R14 is pretty much the de facto standard for dxf files.
David

Here is what happens when I attempt to import dxf R14 file to Inkscape. The error message says to convert from R14 to R13 using QCad. You would think with all the updates and revisions that Inkscape could add import/open dxf r14 capability. I'm sure that some will disagree.

I use LightBurn to convert from dxf R14 to svg, then open with Inkscape.

Here is an example using QCad to convert from R14 to R13 format.

"These days - R14 is pretty much the de facto standard for dxf files."

well, no it isn't. DFX R14 came out in 1997, 25 years ago In fact Autodesk doesn't use that naming format any more.

The difference between R13 and R14 is the ability to handle splines, which we don't even need when drawing in 2D.

I'm using Autocad 2020 for my drawings. When I save to dfx, I have seven versions to choose from , the earliest being R12 the latest being 2018. Any version I save to will open in Inkscape. Interestingly, R14 isn't even an option. So much for your "standard".

DFX file format was developed by Autodesk many years ago. Your QCAD and all the other cad programs that use dfx are trying to emulate the format. I guess some do a better job than others.

So before you go off on somebody and/or pass misinformation, you should make sure you know what your talking about.

My apology to the OP for hijacking this thread.

Sorry Blackslacks - wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers here.

No "misinformation" is being "passed" here. I know exactly "what I am talking about".

My point is that for most of the current cad or cad/cam packages, export as dxf is either DXF R14 only, or DXF R14 is the default version for export (if earlier version are offered). Yes - I was using AutoCAD back in the day when R13 was the latest version. I don't personally use AutoCAD much any more, but when I do I am using AutoCAD release 14 - the same one I have been using since the late 90's.

I would say that over 95% of the dxf files currently being posted here on PlasmaSpider are in R14 format, probably closer to 100%. Inkscape doesn't successfully open R14 format, so these files need to be converted to either R13 or svg format in order to work with them with Inkscape.

What this should say is that "Inkscape will open dxf in R13 format".
"But for dxf R14 conversion will be required."

Does anyone have the file for the cooktop? I apologize in advance, I'm sure that questions has been answered.. I'm relatively new here, still learning my way around. My searches are not turning anything up. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this what you are asking about? If so, I don't think he posted the file here. This would be fairly simple to draw up if you can provide some basic dimensions for what you want - handle size, slot size, etc.

Yes.. That is it. I see it on a few different applications here and they all look pretty much the same so I was guessing it was something folks had downloaded due to the design consistency.

Thank you for replying. I appreciate the help.
