Smudge Pot files anyone?

Post by dunnmfg »

Came across a smudge pot on Facebook marketplace this week and then then did a simple google search and found this picture. Anyone have any drawings of something they have done? These are really cool!!

I had no idea what those were so I looked it up, kinda cool, never heard of that before so obviously I can't help with a dxf or anything but they don't appear to be super tough to draw. Cool, learn something new every day :Yay

I'd be very interested if cutting a few of these too. I've downloaded a few exploded views to try to figure out their inner workings.

I’ve cut a couple of these from these files, has anyone had to add the outer pipe that is normally on these smudge pots to get them to work, or do they work well without them? I know I have to add an adjustable carburetor of sorts on the fill port, but every smudgepot I’ve seen has an external pipe that 90’s back into the chimney higher up.

I haven’t lit one up yet, but getting close.

i know with the one I built (different design) i tried it both ways and it gets much MUCH hotter with the return pipe.
