I have attached a screen shot with dimensions so you can get an idea of the overall size. Dimensions are in inches.

I’ve got it nested to fit two of them on a full sheet of 5x10 with virtually no waste.

Here is one set fit to either a single 4x8 sheet or cut from two 4x4 sheets.

OK - Thanks for pointing that out. I looks like there is still plenty of room to add 2 more of the legs to the nest.

I scaled the original one that I cut down. Cut this one out for one of my bosses today. Came out just over 3ft tall. At this I also combined the side pieces with the upper parts of tank so that it could just be formed instead of another weld joint. Just sheared the bottom to fit. With no bottoms on drawing you can easily get 4 of these out of a 4x8 sheet.

Great job! Very nicely done. And I am very envious of that nice stash of sheet metal in the background - wish I had that in my shop. Keep up the great work.

On page 1 of this thread someone posted DXF files for a smudge pot.

I wonder if this would work shrunk down to a table top version. Like a 2"x2", or a 3" x 3" stack with a small tank, say, 8" sq. or 10" sq?
I would never use one of the normal sized smudge pots around my place, but a dinky one might be cool to fire up once in a while at the lake or somewhere else. I would fire it up the first time away from the house and combustibles if i were to ever fab a dinker.. It sounds interesting.
Also, I grew up around grape farmers and a lot of them used them. They were all lighter gauge than I am seeing on this thread

These are the ones I remember seeing when I was younger. Back in the 50's they used these around road construction along with the barricades - long before they had the modern ones with the batteries and flashing lights.

I’ve cut a couple of these from these files, has anyone had to add the outer pipe that is normally on these smudge pots to get them to work, or do they work well without them? I know I have to add an adjustable carburetor of sorts on the fill port, but every smudgepot I’ve seen has an external pipe that 90’s back into the chimney higher up.

I haven’t lit one up yet, but getting close.

The return pipe recirculates the unburned fuel. Helps keep it from smoking as much.

i know with the one I built (different design) i tried it both ways and it gets much MUCH hotter with the return pipe.

New a guy that was making a table top version. Only issue he had was didn't put off near as much heat. But bet it would be cool on a table top outside when lounging around.

I haven't built one yet, but I believe they can be used with diesel and a variety of different liquids, including kerosene, and cooking oil.
Maybe do a test run somewhere safe with a hose and fire extinguisher handy..
Thats what I am going to do if I build a mini smudge pot.

Here's two I made based off the shared files.
This one turned out a tad big due to all the details cut into it.
102832.jpeg
102754 (1).jpeg
This was the first one 36" tall stack.
97767.jpeg
Next ones will be a different style stack, im not too keen on the square stack.
