Hummingbird-fairy windchime

Post by ben de lappe »

this is a fairy I found on this site. I reworked it a little and made it slide together in a crossed pattern. I drew a ring with holes to attach under the fairy for the addition of the chimes. the gong I made from a hummingbird. my wife absolutely loved it , and had a fit when i sold it. now i get to make her one!!
p.s. how do I get my dxf drawing to show up when
I up-load my dxf file? I can attach pictures , but
dont know how with dxf drawing. thanks in advance
to all.

I usually save my DXF in a PDF format then convert my PDF to JPEG. I converted it for you.

Thank you for posting that, it looks really neat. What do you use for the chime parts? Are each one of the holes in the ring for the string for the chime to hang from? The reason I ask and I won't want you to take this the wrong way or anything, but 8 chimes are too many unless you have duplicates of some chimes. As far as a musical scale goes for harmonies I would have either 4 or 5 at the max chimes. With 4 you could say have the major chord for the Bb scale, so your lower Bb, D, F, then the octave Bb. But all of that depends on the material choice for your chimes, wall thickness, and length and so forth. Again I didn't want this post to sound negative, I really like the design you did for hanging the chimes and I think I will cut one for a birthday gift for my mom.

MrKriez,
As one whom has played French horn with 2 universities and a very short time with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra before joining the U.S.A.F, I fully understand and agree with you. To tell you the truth, it was not intended to have perfect pitch. It was more about the spiral pattern lengthening as it dropped. I went with what sounded o.k. and what looked really good ( to me). My shortest chime is 9-1/2" long and increases roughly by 1/2" as it spirals down. The chimes are aluminum with 1/16" wall thickness. Also I did not find your post as negative. I do not mind having to think once in a while. :D As you are aware, one can limit the number of chimes.

:Like Great idea. Thank you and "plain ol Bill" for you time and effort. I just found out our data processor has a "fairy garden" and she's sure to love this. If I cut it, I'll share the pictures. If anyone has an already assembled version please share. I'm not sure if the bird and ring is the chime chime part and everything is hanging from the fairy base or is it the other way? Sorry I lack the imagination... Thanks again though. I just showed her, and she said to just cut the fairy base because she's got a place for it :Like

edited... some how i missed the post above that described the chimes. Thank you

All you guys are welcome. I did get a nice pic of this cut and painted by one of you talented individuals a long time ago. Unfortunately at this time I can neither remember who nor what happened to the pic and any pic of mine is long gone.

ETCWeld...for your data processor's fairy garden. See if she likes this, if so the file has been shared and is available here: www.plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f=6& ... oom#p88845

Thanks to the noobs for keeping it fun! :-D

Thanks, I showed her that one too. She said it and one of the others were "too sexy" :Wow
She picked the Garden Fairy and the Crescent moon Fairy. Then you went and did this and she really wants it. Originally she just wanted a base on it now she wants both, you know..."if it's not too much trouble" she said :HaHa
I take projects from the ppl I like as long as they are willing to wait for a scrap piece that they fit on so there's not telling when she'll get it, but it gives her something to look forward too. lol
Thanks the suggestion and again for all the effort.
