FINECUT CONSUMABLES SUITABLE FOR PMAX45 & T45M TORCH

Post by enzed »

I specialize in cutting silhouettes – ‘metal art’ and have been using a Powermax45 and a T45m machine torch, fitted with the standard consumables for this torch. I would like to improve the cut quality and also be able to cut finer detail, so I intend to change over to Finecut consumables.

A certain amount of confusion however seems to exist regarding which Finecut consumables can be used with this cutter and torch. I have been told by an agent that there are no Finecut consumables which will work with my equipment, whilst someone else informed me that the following consumables will successfully do the job:

220955 Shield/deflector
220854 Retaining cap
220930 Nozzle
220842 Electrode
220947 Swirl ring
220480 Nozzle (hand torch)

I will appreciate it if someone from Hypertherm can please clarify this and advise me if I can use Finecut consumables or not with the equipment which I have.

Thanks,
enzed

Those part numbers are what the Duramax torch uses. Your torch uses different consumables.

I believe this thread will help you out:

for the pmx45 (non XP) if you want to use fine-cut consumables you need to replace your torch with a duramax torch which allows fine-cut and other standard consumables..... basically all the consumables the 45xp, 65 85 can use.... the torch is essentially a 65/85/105 torch with a revised cut chart

Thank you guys, your comments are very valuable. I am however still confused as a result of a statement which I have just seen but embarrassed to say, had not noticed before, in the Powermax45 manual, which states as follows:

"The T30v (Powermax30) 30 A consumables can be used on the T45m as well. The part numbers are listed on page 6-6". These are:

220569 Deflector
220483 Retaining cap
220480 Nozzle
220479 Swirl ring
220478 Electrode

So it seems that Finecut work can be done with the T45m torch ? Any comments on this will be appreciated.

I tried those 30a parts on the machine torch, work well for hand cutting fine detail but they are tricky enough for cnc work, I get on a lot better with the duramax torch with the old pm45 using the proper finecuts.

Thank you SeanP, also very valuable advice. I however cannot justify buying a Duramax torch right now because the T45m is still in excellent condition. But I will certainly make a note of yourand the other guys advice and when the time comes to replace the torch, I will certainly follow it.

Thanks again to all and best wishes,
