Possible issue with Powermax 1650

Post by inspectweld »

I have a Powermax 1650 cutter on my Torchmate 2 table. The gas, AC power and lightning bolt icons start to flash rapidly then it stops cutting and the torch lifts up. Tried changing all consumables and checking consumables, ground, power connections, checked air flow and its good. Any ideas out there, thanks

After the blinking stops the red lightning bolt/ error and the power button (not the V circle) stays illuminated. When I switch the power off then back on and start the program it will cut from 6 to 12 inches then the blinking etc. as stated above.

is the air pressure OK, is the filter blocked? when did you last inspect and replace it?

Thanks but that was one of the first things I did was checked pressure going in to the machine and it is good with no blockage from the filter.

I didnt know the regulator had a filter. How do you remove the filter and where exactly is it?

have a look around page 37 here

https://www.hypertherm.com/Download?fil ... &zip=False

also search for filter and regulator.

if you turn the hypertherm on and turn the amperage down on some models the air valve will open and it will give you an idea if there is a pressure drop at the nozzle

you may have a faulty regulator or pressure sensor too

Yep did that and the air came on. Yes and I am also thinking either filter, sensor or regulator now.
For now I am running it 35 inches then I pause for 2 min. then it will run for another 35 inches before shutting off. Its a bitch and it takes time but Im getting it done. I have 80 1/2" plates ranging in size fr 36"x 7" to 14" x 5" to cut

sometimes there can be a mesh on the inlet to the regulator .

have you tried running it without the filter in the filter bowel?

Could be problem with the inverter of control board. I have seen this issue with bad ribbon cable on the control board.
