Any error codes? Are you powering it down before you remove the consumables?

No codes, no I'm not, I guess I should be?

To me that sounds like a G-code problem, the circuit is there and the consumables are ok if you can manually fire it from Mach.
you can also try putting an M3 in the MDI box on that page and hit enter, be ready to hit the reset to stop the firing after that.

My 65 displays an error if I remove the consumables with the power on. Maybe the 45xp is different.

The 45XP will not fire after the consumables are changed until you power down the machine and turn it on again. It is a safety feature.
