auto cut control issues

Post by weldergirl »

Hi all!

Having issues with the auto cut control funtion - turing itself onand off during a cut process.
it results in the arc turing on and off multiple times during a cut

No codes or notices showing up on computer and can see icon turn off and on while looking at computer or control box
even while not touching anything is controlling itself and to get working again having to stop rehome and start cut path again

...So just wondering if anyone has encountered this? (like it has a mind of its own) and any advice greatly apprectiated !

Thankyou, Brooklyn :)

When you say auto cut control are you referring to the auto height control?

This sounds like a sticking or defective key on your controller keypad. The Video Manual, Chapter 8, Testing, Run Machine Diagnostics, Check Control Panel explains how to test your keypad for stuck or defective buttons.

The process is as follows:

Check control panel
Push all of the buttons on the control panel one-at-a-time and verify that the corresponding image turns yellow on the
computer screen.
Turn the "speed/shuttle" dial on the control panel and verify that the "speed dial rotations" changes accordingly on the
computer screen. The number should count up to about 1.0 when the dial is rotated once clockwise, and back down to
about 0.0 as it is rotated once counterclockwise.
Click the "LED test" button on the computer screen. All the indicator lights (except the power light) should illuminate
one-at-a-time on the control panel, synchronized with the illumination of the corresponding images on the computer
screen. You can also click the individual images on the computer screen to manually turn the indicator lights on or off in
different combinations to further check their function.
If the lights seem dim, check for a problem with the supply voltage and do the hold test.
Otherwise, if any of the indicators fail to respond as described, the controller is faulty and should be replaced. If the
problem is limited to the control panel buttons and the panel seems physically worn or faulty, you can try replacing just
the control panel first.

You can purchase a replacement keypad directly from Plasmacam.

Make sure the air pressure at the rear of the plasma torch NEVER drops below 90 PSI. If your air line is supplying air, but at a rate where the air inlet pressure is vacillating between 89 and 90, the torch will turn on and off. The plasma cutter requires 90 PSI to prevent the torch from being damaged. So normally the torch just shuts off, because the air supply drops WAY below 90 PSI. However, you may have a situation where you are ALMOST providing enough air, so the torch shuts off only momentarily, until the air pressure in the line reaches 90 PSI again, and then the torch fires again.

Brooklyn - are you saying that you can see the Cutting Auto lamp turn on and off by itself? If so then as I stated above - test your keypad using diagnostics.
If the Cutting Auto lamp stays lit (ON) and the torch stops firing, then I agree that you need to make sure you have sufficient air pressure at the plasma cutter. It is advisable to install an inline air pressure gauge directly at the air entrance to your plasma cutter. Make sure you have a good solid 100 psi reading on the gauge with air flowing thru your torch, and that it maintains this pressure while you are cutting.
