Stepper motor growling and staying engaged

Post by Bradley »

I have a torchmate 5x10 gen x table, with the torchmate red driver box, i purchased it all new in 2016, I believe they switched to the accuemove shortly after this version,

The problem is the stepper motor is staying engaged or trying to drive, i switched motors with a new one and the problem still exisits, its on the one that moves the torch sideways,
Is my problem in the box that generates the signal to the motor?

Not very familiar with the Torchmate systems but stepper systems are pretty simple and if you have replaced the motor and have the same issue it must be the driver. If all your drivers are the same you could swap one out from the Y axis to the X and see if that fixes the X before buying a new driver.

So i swapped the cables from the drivers and the problem moved so is it the driver? I cannot truly isolate as the y axis has male pins for the cable, and the x axis uses females on the board.

It may be time to replace the driver.

Yes, if that is the case than the driver will be your problem. Hope you are able to get fixed up quickly.

So I physically removed and swapped the mircostepping drives and the problem went away, I was am able to purchase the driver from Flashcut, so I will receive the new driver on friday, that should solve the problem, I was not able to get to act as it was doing before, I also plugged the motor directly to the back of the controller to eliminate a cable problem, its down to whats in the red box of magic!! Swapping the drivers was the right way to go thankyou weldguy!!!
