DXF FILE NOT WORKING IN SHEETCAM AND MACH 3

Post by ron »

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A LDR TABLE WHICH WORKS WITH AUTOCAD,SHEETCAM AND MACH 3 WHICH I HAVE NOT USED BEFORE AS I HAD A TRACKER TABLE WHICH I FOUND VERY EASY TO USE. I AM TRYING TO CUT A WELCOME FLAMINGO SIGN WHICH WHICH WAS GENEROUSLY DONATED TO THIS SITE. WHEN I BRING THIS UP IN SHEETCAM EVERYTHING LOOKS OK BUT WHEN I BRING UP MACH3 IT GOES TO ABOUT HALF WAY IN THE CODE FILE.
SORRY IF I DONT SOUND RIGHT IN MY TERMINOLOGY BUT I AM A NEWBIE LEARNING. I AM USING OTHER FILES AND THEY ARE WORKING OK. I AM IN CANADA AND JUST BOUGHT A HOME IN FLORIDA AND WAS TRYING TO CUT MYSELF A WELCOME FLAMINGO SIGN FOR THE FRONT OF MY HOME BUT NO LUCK. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP THAN I CAN GET.
THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE, RON

HI
You said the Mach3 goes about half way through the file do you mean when you first load the G-code or when you are cutting.
If it is in the load there is a problem with the G-code where it stops. In SheetCam there is a simulation function you can use to see if it ok before you leave there. It is up on the top next to the "T" after you get the operations worked out click on it and it will move the cursor so you see the cutting operation in action.

Post the dxf and the tap (gcode) file and then others can see if they experience a similar issue.

Take the Caps lock off your machine... :D
Now what do you mean it goes halfway into the code?
What post processor did you use in Sheetcam?
I'll take a look at the file etc when I get home and see if it will let me run it.

Copy the GCODE file to another folder and rename it with a TXT extension like this ( welcome-florida.txt ) then PlasmaSpider will let you upload the file. Not sure why we can not upload a GCODE file but site don't like them. Be sure to state that the file is really a GCODE file so people will know, OK!.

I downloaded the first DFX file from above and ran sheetcam and loaded the tap file in Mach fine.
I did set it up in sheetcam with no offset so there maybe a problem with overlapping lines.

inside offset, no errors in Sheetcam aside from my leadin and out were too large for some features but otherwise works.
Ran fine on the table using my CandCNC Post Process...

Again what is it doing?

Just open the TAP with Notepad then copy and paste the text... make sure you do get ALL of the text.
Mine shows an M00 so you hit run it goes to 0x0 and waits then I hit run again and it starts cutting.

Hi Guys, I contacted DAN from LDR and he solved my problem as I had the kerf set at 1.5 in. and that was the problem. I really appreciate all your help but I guess that I am having to find learning programs for sheetcam and mach 3. I guess that I was spoiled when I had my TRACKER as it did all the work. Thanks,RON

Ron, As I explained before, it is just a "different" work than you are used too. You are not used to working with layers, I can promise you once you practice, going from a drawing to a cut file is just as easy as a tracker system. The problem with "easy" systems as a lot of people like to call them is you loose lots of control.
Thanks

Dan will walk you through any problems you have, I have had my LDR for about 9 months and any issues I have ever had has been operator error and not machine error. Be patient and you will grow to love your new machine and it capabilities.

M00 is a stop command you can put it in a G-code to stop motion for what ever reason you want.
Hitting cycle start gets it going again until the M0.
there are many videos on SheetCam and Mach on the web for you to download along with others for Inkscape they can really help.

have fun

I have found that using the M01 rather then M00 works better. M01 is an optional stop and you can decide if you want to use the stop or not by using the { optional stop ] button on the panel on MACH3. You can put stops wherever you think you may need them and then just skip over them with a flick of a switch. :D
